How do you guys get people liking your websites Facebook pages? I've got one set up, but I feel like it's just sitting in it's own private box.

I'm not really sure how to promote the thing...It's not a bunch of funny Meme's and various things that teens like..(I feel like that would be easier to promote than a web design blog)

I may be doing all I can, and it will just take time..but I also don't want to just be wasting time with it. I've got facebook buttons attached to my blog so people can like the post that way, and I post it on Facebook as well. (I don't want to buy any fake likes, I'd like to get real people interacting with me.)

The best way to grasp it is to look at what others are doing. Examine successful pages/posts and see what it is that people like about them. Is it the poster, are they a popular person? Is it the content? Is it the wording and how it attracts people? You'll notice a lot of bad content gets tons of likes....maybe it's a current event, maybe it's a trend or a new viral thing.... If you don't know exactly what makes people like stuff, well welcome to the club. ;)

Just create a "contest" in your page and make rules for people like that to take part in :
    1) You need to like our page (if you have add twitter & youtube etc.)
    2) Share this post with your friends.
    3) Like and comment on this post.
PS: More comments & more likes will increase your chance.

Something like that - show this contest as a legit one ;) - Give 1-2 weeks to announce the winner.

After that, create a fake account. Comment and like everything with that account. in the page.
Then announce your account as the winner.

The award must be about your niche and expensive one - so people will try to take part in.

After the contest ends, tell people to follow the page; because there'll be more contest soon :)

That's just an idea appeared on my mind after reading your thread.
Just brainstorm - that's the way.

PS: Don't forget, that method won't work with a 20 liked fan page as you guess :)

like ontealdon said, try to make a contest. also, you can try to get some email lists and add them to your page. those will be real like, even if they will be just a few of them. I have a tinyleter embeded to my blog, where people can subscribe to my blog by email. I take that list and I uploaded into fb fan page.

You can try doing a mini contest, but a realistic one. Like if you run a clothes blogshop, run weekly giveaways by making people share and like. If you noticed many big companies give our electronic gadgets etc as a lucky draw gift from sharing and liking their facebook page. But if you really noticed, people share and like is hoping to have a better stand in chance hoping to win the gadget.

Running a contest is a great way to increase your FB page fans. However, try to do a legit contest and not a scam one as others suggest.

I do it the old-fashioned way of providing content that's helpful to my website visitors. 1-2% of visitors like my pages this way.

Go to Facebook Ads and promote a post. I spent $30 and got 700 Likes to a new page I had just created last week. That's pretty good. :) If you're serious, as I said, just spend a little money and use Facebook Ads.

Also depending on your nature of business. Some online business go through SEO to get businesses more effectively as compared to Facebook. Perhaps facebook page when you have accumulated a steady flow of customers.

Facebook ads may work, i have spent a lot and it has helped me in certain ways, the other way is to make sure your posts are cool, unique and gets the attention of all who are following, check out some of the successful ones with over 100k likes, analyze their posts and try to show something original. As always there are 2 ways to get more likes.

Guys, all of this is really good information. Some definite food for thought. I'm going to spend a good amount of time today perusing various FB pages in my niche and see how they do things, to get some ideas as to what I could do.

That being said, I've already got some good ideas, I can spend a few bucks and get some ad space - 30 bucks for a some exposure isn't bad.

I definitely need to make sure I'm posting regularly, and posting some eye catching stuff - I've noticed pictures do well, no matter what the niche is, people like a funny picture (if it's halfway relevant). I can run some contests, offer some freebies and such.

That also being said, I need more exposure first...I guess what I'm trying to figure out is..how to pull in some eyes FROM facebook, which will in turn get them to the blog. The only way to do that may be ads, I'm guessing? or randomly searching for people and shooting them a message :p

Again, all good things, I'm making notes!

Another free suggestion, try some social exchange sites like addmefast. Set up a quick iMacro to get you some points, and you're set!

Yes, perhaps you can invest some $ on Facebook ads first. Then must continue to post regularly on your FB page to engage with your customers!
