    Hello,

I'm reorganizing one of my websites as we speak and merging short posts into bigger ones and making more changes into site structure etc... I'm doing 301 from old pages to new ones using some WP plugin, but my question is do you guys do something else?

How do I get rid of old pages from index? Or that goes with time? Or should I go and do some sort of request from WMT for page removal?

Am I missing something or that's pretty much that I should do when it comes to this?

    Thank you!

    Dragon,

You aren't missing anything. Yes you could request that Google remove certain URL's however this should only be done in extreme cases where its imperative that the URL be removed. If the reason is because its an old link (and you have already redirected it) I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes old URLs will eventually drop out of SERP's over time. Your redirects will remain working and once you can determine that those URL's are no longer in the index, you can remove the redirect (assuming you have also changed any links that are associated with a URL).

If you are using a plugin for redirection and this is working for you then that seems fine. There are a lot of other ways to do this like on the server level with a configuration file (.htaccess) or in the code on the page (meta refresh - not recommended) but, like I said, if your method is working then stick with it.

This info on WMT is about moving a site but much of it applies to your situation. Maybe you can get some affirmation that you are doing things right here,
