Do you research what is hot at the moment on various sites? Go by gravity or momentum ratings at affiliate networks? Find current popular keywords?

Just wondering how you all do it.

Just choose what you think you can promote. There aren't those gravity/momentum rating things on affiliate networks, they're called different things like EPC and such. Join some, choose what you think you can promote, and run it. On networks, there's something valuable called an Affiliate Manager that will give you great advice about the offer, how other affiliates are doing it, or nice ways to promote it so that you get the most conversions.

As I can see you're a beginner, try email/zip submits. It's an easy way to make money and doing them WH is really simple too. In the money making forum there's tons of techniques. Find one that looks promising, research about it and twist it to your own means, and you should be golden. Make multiple campaigns using the same method, but modify each of them so you can see which one is converting the best and find out why it's doing so. Use that knowledge to your advantage.

In all seriousness I use a variety of sources google trends, amazon, the news.

One of my favorites is a method I learned from a video.
You can download the video from

I think its lesson two that talks about niche research. By all means though look around the rest of the forum. There are many many ways that work. I recommend choosing something you believe in or have interest in. It will prevent you from getting bored.

It really depends on the method with which you will be advertising. Obviously email/zip submits are going to be easier to convert than loan applications. But on the other hand, if you have a site that already gets a lot of traffic for loan type keywords then you may do better with loan applications than "get a free xxxxx" submits.

You should base your offers upon the traffic you will be getting. Personally I try to figure out a way to get traffic before I look for an offer to promote to said traffic.

If you already have a traffic source you simply need to consider who the traffic is made up of. For instance, I have a huge source of traffic for straight women between the ages of 25-40. Right off the bat I know that an offer for free health or beauty products will go over better than an offer for a free xbox360.

That makes too much sense. But, HOW do you determine the demographics of your traffic? Do you have the Google Demo-Tracker turned on?

When using PPC knowing your demographics is fairly simple. If you are buying keywords like "miley cyrus" then your audience will most likely be female teens, or dirty old men. I recently bought keywords for that madoff guy who did all that fraud. Now most people who search for that are mostly likely going to be an older, more intelligent croud.

If you are using youtube to advertise you have to look at what your video is about, if you have a video of a chick with a giant ass shaking it around you can be pretty sure the people watching will be straight males who are horny.

Those are just a couple examples of how to read a couple traffic sources.

I don't have any set way of 'getting to know' my traffic. I just take a look at where the traffic is coming from and think of the type of people that would do whatever action was done to make them come to my site.

That's just how I do it, I'm not sure how others go about it...

You want to find a specific niche that isn't oversaturated. Also, as someone previously said, talk to your Affiliate Manager. Some people find/buy popular keywords with much success, depending on what you're promoting.

In my case what works is just picking offers at random and then test them.

I can't tell you how many times an offer that I thought it was going to suck based on my "trend reasearch' turned out to be a winner.

Of course this method only works if you plan to promote dozens if not hundreds of different offers per month.

If you plan to launch only a few campaigns you are better off sticking with what eventus said.

Very good advice, it's all about trial and error; and yes, i agree that it would be best to promote as many offers as you can.
