    1) Is SEO always an ongoing service? Another words is it something that most definitely should be charged monthly or at least more than once?

    2) How do you go about talking with a client about SEO and discussing lengths and prices when you can't guarantee that you will get their site up to the front page? I have a family friend now that wants to pay me to do some SEO for his website, and always at the end of our brief conversations he'll be like "But you can get me up to the first page, right?" Basically, if I can't guarantee getting him up to the first page, how do you go about getting someone to pay you for SEO? It seems like a gamble on his part. Keep in mind he's old and technologically handicapped so he has no idea about how it works.

I think if you know that much about SEO to get someone to pay you for doin it then you are fine, don't worry.I don't know much about Seo either, but of what ive read here i think you have to get paid every month for a minumum of 6 months. That can mean money upfront for 6 months or monthly payment.Because you will have to work at it if the keywords you wanna rank for are competitive you will need to do alot of work so you might wanna set a good price from the start so you won't find yourself working more than the money is worth it.Also i would suggest you do a research on the keywords your buddy/client wants to rank for.Maybe you can find less competitive synonims for them.In the end, never take on a job you are not sure you can do what you promisse to your clients. If the job looks too hard or the keywords are too hard...just let somebody more resurceful do it.Cheers!

    1. SEO should be an ongoing process, and should be charged monthly.

    2. Tell them that it takes 6-8 weeks before you they see tangible results and I just do your keyword research and if you know how to rank then it shouldn't be too hard if you pick an easy buyer keyword to start off with.

Not to sound like a douche, but if you asked "Is SEO an ongoing service?" you probably shouldn't be offering SEO services :pat:

But anyway to answer your questions, yes it is an ongoing service, and you should charge monthly.

As far as guarantees, there are a lot of people who have differing opinions on it, and it is ultimately up to you how you want to run your business. I know successful companies that offer guarantees and others that do not.

There are many who spend much $$ on SEO b'cause they will have a lucrative business so if you can rank them in page#1 they will be more likely to pay the price you quote. If you are not sure and can't guarantee page#1 but some serp increase then you can charge reasonably.Added to that seo is an ongoing process just make sure your plan works well to make your clients rank.

We charge monthly price for our SEO work with 6 months contract.
We give guarantee for first page result in case that site already ranks for that keyword in top 100.
That is good sign for us that site is not penalized.
Then depends of competition we charge different price on monthly level (from $400 to ....)

    1. Charge monthly, and yes SEO is an ongoing thing. Once the battle to the top is won, you have to keep working at it to stay there. Your competition will do what they can to beat you in the serps.

    2. If you're not confident about your SEO techniques, don't take money from a family friend. Anyone that's been doing SEO for a while knows that it's possible to get ranked, just takes time and technique. If you don't know what you're doing, I wouldn't think it'd be a good idea to take money from people. I believe reputation is everything, and that wouldn't put you off to a good start.

    Hello,
How do you guys define price for the keyword? or any term/requirements to do the seo?
Example my company is selling soda drink, and I want to focus on "drink" keyword, so whenever someone type "drink" on google, my website will be the first.
I know its really really hard but can you guys still provide the service? and if yes how do you define the price?

    Thanks.

If you provide punctual services (on-page only, auditing only, link profile analysis only etc.) you can charge by the hour. Note that you will have to give the client an estimate before you agree with him on the project.

If you offer full services you can:

    1) Ask for a monthly subscription.
    2) Ask for payment on results (once the client reaches first page with a targeted kw, he pays) -> much more riskier for you if you don't know what you're doing.

You should ask for monthly payments depending upon the number of keywords you are working on... And yes, seo is an ongoing process... the ranking may differ due search engine algorithm changes... so there is no guarantee many a times.. but with the process you plan to follow, you can atleast give some time estimate...

I'm new to SEO, and I only have 1 monthly client. I charge money pr link :) In this beginning I keep it low, then when you start building a reputation you can "take more payment" :)

Generally your going to want to charge a monthly fee. You can charge a one time fee for a link package. To get the time frame, just tell them that it takes a certain amount of time to see results. After that, if you are good enough at SEO, then you should be good.

Unlike most people here who offer services, I purchase them. I also get billed monthly. Normally a set amount, but if I see they've done a good job I'll pay them extra so they have motivation to work hard the next month. :]

You would need to vary the price according to how hard it's going to be to rank the kw.

It's depend on how competitive of the keywords that they want to rank. If it is too competitive, charge them on monthly basis. If it is easy to rank keywords, charge them for 1st page on Google. There is a lot of business owner wants to rank for very easy keywords and low competitive, charge them 1-2k per keywords that rank 1st on google.

It sounds you are not confident about your skills. The best advice: Be 100% honest.
