If you are creating them manual to web 2.0s, how do you avoid leaving a footprint behind? change username, change email used?

Don't worry about email, only the site admin can see that so no footprint there.

Personally I change the username round and change the bio text where I'm dropping my link, usually add some random stuff under the other fields (interests etc).

Interesting question as most will carry the footprint of the web2 platform
So googling your anchor text along with the platform footprint will return your links
So this only leaves carful mixing of the anchor text, and spinning all the other details
This limits the links per platform

    Or using a redirct link?
