How do some Twitter accounts suddenly get a boost of followers/day?

I'm watching Twitter accounts like @fluff and @catsu on social blade.

These accounts are not using typical strategies like:
  • mass follow
  • mass likes
  • tagging users
  • hashtagging
For @catsu, the account suddenly got a bump on February 3rd, but behaviour did not change.
For @fluff, the account has been averaging 3k followers/day and the only thing I can think of is that they have many small acounts RTing the main one, though I can't really tell when I look at the RT list.

No secret. It's their content.

Nothing is more popular than cat pictures on the internet. Women will eat that up, retweet, like, share, without thinking twice. Met cat-women over the years. They live and breath for their cats.

No surprise the number of followers they have. And no doubt the boosts are probably just from engaged users sharing their favorite, on their facebook and any other socials. No secret there. Cute animals attract big time attention.

if I had to rank subjects that quickly gain followers

1. cats (by a long shot)
2. sex
3. dogs

@CryptoKujira by comparison there are many other accounts that tweet the exact same thing like @fluffsociety or @meowmeowbeamz, but if you look at their statistics on social blade, it pales in comparison

Checked those two accounts and not surprised. They already have good number of followers. In social media your first 50k is the hardest. After that it snowballs if your content is good. They'll now keep gaining followers rapidly. Twitter is also a good place to be right now as their reach is not as shit as FB or even Instagram lately.

@NirvanaWolf: The funny thing is that catsu has 800k followers and fluff has 400k, but fluff has consistently gotten 3x-4x more daily followers, and it's been going on for 2-3 months.

By comparison, this is at the level of @dog_rates and @dog_feelings if you look at their stats, and they have about 7.8M and 2.2M followers. It's pretty messed up.

Why is it messed up? It's dogs. Huge audience and a lot of people are robots when it comes to liking and following on social.

That a 400k account can perform like a 2M or 7M account. I get that you start running out of people to follow you but that's kind of crazy. I have a few 100k accounts in the animal theme and they get 300-400 followers a day, nowhere close to the 3k-4k that @fluff gets

Do you know if those accounts also have insta and pinterest accounts connected?

From what I've seen on their account, no, haven't seen any mention of IG or pinterest.

@heartofgold: the engagement on each of their tweets is pretty high, I don't think followers are bought but I do think that there is something else at play here. My hypothesis is that they have may other retweet accounts with 10k-20k followers and all they do is RT the main account. I've done this with some smaller accounts to my main and it's worked ok, I probably don't have the quantity or size.
