How do low quality website backlinks effect google ranking/seo

Hey i was just curious what would happen to your google website ranking if you spammed it with like 10k different low quality backlinks. I’m guessing this would lower your website ranking drastically but idk. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Google will ignore them as spam links as they don't get indexed. Only damage that they can cause is your moz spam score with shoot to 30-40% or even more.
 
This happened only once with me. I was working for a local client. The competitor used a lot of top 100 domain list backlinks. His website was being mentioned in similar sites that displayed top 100 recently registered websites.
He ranked good in the searches at that time.

Wait so if a url gets indexed it can’t be counted as spam? Though even indexed URL’s can be spam
