How do indexing services like linklicious.me work?

What are they actually doing with the links I'm submitting? They say pinging what is this actually I don't know of any interface with Google where I can ping with a page :S or is there?

Anyway's I've just started using the basic version, haven't seen any improvements in indexing to be honest.
