    Hello All

I have a website which I would like to rank in other European countries, especially Germany. What are the best practices to get it ranked in German Google for example?

    Alison,

You would want to start by getting a country specific tld. For Germany it would be the .de. You would then want to target country/region specific keyword terms such as including the names of towns, villages and cities in the terms you are using.

Registering with any local directories for that country would also be beneficial. Geotagging images is also a powerful signal for ranking well in a specific geographic location.

Perhaps you can find more tips in this thread,

    Good luck!

Also you have to remember search terms will be specific to each country. Due to language and understanding of english translation, so keyword research is important for each country specifically if you want to really go at it.

IMO hosting has nothing to do with it. Just target your German keywords and get links from German websites. German content. etc..

Just like .coms for english but in german, its the same process.

If your targeting search engine is German then : Get .de domain - > host on German IP - > build back links on .de blogs - > content is either english or german - > diversify the key phrases = this will be okay to rank easily

    cheers,

Thanks to all who replied. Thankfully the .de extension is still there, and I'm actually looking at German hosting so guess I'm half way there! Cheers

.de domain > german made-from-scratch content > reasonable amount of links each day/each week. Same order for other extensions and countries, works pretty well by experience. Best wishes
