How do I put on some more weight?

Choclates+icecreams+cheese.

But you may end up being fat.

Hey Lucius,

You are what is termed a Hard-Gainer. Which means you have a harder time than most others when it comes to gain muscle mass. You need to follow a plan designed for this condition.

you should be naturally gaining weight if you just spend 24/7 in front of your computer making money

Yes mate, I thought so too but it aint happening. isn't that odd

Jeeesus! Do any of you who are actually offering "advice" know what you're talking about or are you just regurgitating stuff you've heard elsewhere?

Creatine? Really? Do you even know what the stuff does? It's got absolutely nothing, nada, zilch to do with putting weight on.

Hard-gainer? That's a term (misused in most cases) about people who find it difficult to pack on muscle (in a lot of cases because their diet isn't sorted) - the guy already said he don't train so it don't even apply - seriously folks!!

FFS If you don't know, don't just spout stuff!

To the OP - best advice I can offer is educate yourself - picking an internet marketing forum to ask about weight gain/diet etc is about the same as picking a diet forum and asking for advice on SEO - the expertise isn't there in most cases.

Take a look for things like "Precision Nutrition", "Scrawny To Brawny", "The New Rules of Lifting" - if you want to get "bigger" then your diet is a big part, as is your age, as is your exercise level and type of exercise etc, but ask the question in the right place and you'll be fine - not posting links as they're all searchable.

Maybe I am wrong I don't know it just seems strange how I was using this, then I stopped and put on loads of weight, I never said it was fact, I said it what happened to me, maybe I was just supposed to be fat and it was coincidence.

For you skinny guys, do some research on the "ectomorph" bodytypes. knowing your bodytype will help you determine what kind of training and diet you respond best to to put on weight.

Hey - no prob, I wasn't flaming you or anything - I just get a bit cheesed when I see things being spouted about stuff like weightloss/gain that appears to be just throwing words around that are in the arena rather than fitting the circumstances - I only know what I know because I took the time to learn.

Creatine by the way is something that can help you to lift/train for longer than you would normally as it helps with the energy required for fast/strong movements (it's something that's also found in natural food so it's not anything iffy) - it's that extra training that "helps" people pack on more muscle (amongst other things like an appropriate diet/sufficient rest etc)

I have put on a good bit of muscle in the past few years so I could help you out...

First, You need to go on some bodybuilding forums and do some research Secondly maybe go to your doctor and get your blood work done to make sure nothing weird is going on, like low testosterone, thyroid problem or somthing.

Heres a quick summary of what may work for you.

1. Eat a ridiculous amount of calories...with protein being your base. You can eat pretty much anything go get calories but the protein needs to be your staple. Probably 1.5-2 grams per pound of bodyweight per day would be a good start. You are a hardgainer most likely so you need to eat a shitload to put on weight.

2. Lift heavy weights (go on a forum to get yourself a good routine)

3. Take supplements. Heres what I would take if I were you.
----Muscle Milk protien powder...takes great and is good source of protein

----Phosphagen Creatine by Eas...its cheap and it works. Makes you stronger.. Numerous studies have shown that its safe.

----NO Explode...helps build muscle using nitric oxide basically

----multivitamin

4. Sleep

That should at least get you on the right track...good luck

PM. me if you have any more questions.

No problem I know it can get frustrating if you know what you are on about, I didn't even know what it was for, I was told of someone to take it whilst doing weight training so I did, and well you know the rest.

Good advice - ask in the right place and educate yourself - agree so far

Being a "hardgainer" - he does no lifting (from his opening post), so what are you basing that on? A "hardgainer" is someone (supposedly) who struggles to add muscle - do you know if he's even tried, and how he's tried, and how he's supported that through his diet? Until you know those things you have no idea how hard or otherwise it will be for him to gain, sorry.

2. Lift heavy weights (go on a forum to get yourself a good routine)

Good advice (assuming he finds a good routine and supports it with his diet)

3. Take supplements. Heres what I would take if I were you.
----Muscle Milk protien powder...takes great and is good source of protein
And is also full of fat - fat itself isn't bad but you want the right kinds, and this ain't gonna give it you you

----Phosphagen Creatine by Eas...its cheap and it works. Makes you stronger.. Numerous studies have shown that its safe.

Creatine does not make you stronger, sorry - it plays a big part in the energy systems used for strong/powerful and fast movements, but it does not make you strong, again - just plain wrong

----NO Explode...helps build muscle using nitric oxide basically
Sorry - you've been sold by the supps companies on that one - and muscles are not built using Nitric Oxide - honestly, read-up and educate yourself.

----multivitamin
Good advice if your diet isn't giving you sufficient natural vits, but a varied whole-food diet will serve you better.

Very important and good advice.

Glad that stuff has worked for you, but the chances are that is more by luck than design - NO supps are not going to help here, neither is advice for a "hardgainer", or "protein shake type drinks" - you'll just become a supp monster (as in you'll pay loads for them instead of eating well).

Don't get me wrong, I ain't beefin' against the people trying to offer advice, I just think you asked in the wrong place and you're getting well-intentioned but ill-informed answers and suggestions - educate yourself and you'll do better for it - I've already given you more than you need in terms of where to look so go look

Hi randomname
sup

Thanks for your advice. I appreciate that. From the replies
it seems that there is no way I can gain weight and stay healthy without working out.

well, as for the wrong forum, i figured it's something everyone would sorta know about. It's a general thing. Like I said, I was not particularly looking for bodubuilding, weight training advice only. Any suggestions on putting weight naturally was what i had been looking for.

Thanks again, randomname and others. I guess I have to prepare myself for workouts now, there seems to be no other way.

I'm not saying that workouts are your only way - not in any way - you haven't mentioned your age, activity, diet, anything - so without any detail it's impossible to tell you anything of value other than look in the right places for your advice (yes - you're right - it is "general", but I'm assuming you want good advice or better, and if that's the case then you need to ask people who have experience - I wouldn't ask about CPA over at weightwatchers - although there may be people with experience, it would be more luck than judgment if anyone with experience answered, so much better to ask those types of questions where there is likely to be a good cluster of people with real experience and knowledge - while this is a great place for all things interwebby, I'm afraid there are better places for things like diet and weight-management ;)

Thanks,
yes I am going to hunt in relevant forums, too.
To be honest, since BHW is the ONLY forum I have been active on and one that i like best, it was more of an unconscious idea to ask here first.

Hi
Thanks guys fr all the useful input - I appreciate that. However, I am not looking to indulge in work out or body building, just looking for natural ways to gain weight and become healthier so I can look better.

You want to be healthier...but you don't want to work for it...of course...

Seriously...if you are really interested in putting on some mass that isn't just fat, you need to work out. Shit, even if you only do 15 to 30 minutes a day, you'll notice a big difference. Get a membership to a gym, it isn't expensive ($10 to $20 a month) and hit up the pull up bar and some of the nautilus machines if you want an easy time. Throw in a little of the elliptical machine and/or the stair stepper for cardio and you're gold.

I can understand wanting to be healthy, but you're not going to achieve that without ACTING to get healthy.

As far as diet...what people have said so far about getting your fill of protein on a daily basis is good advice. I personally take the Whey Protein Complex you can find at GNC before and after every workout and again about an hour or two before bed...but my workouts run about an hour to an hour and a half 5 days a week so my body needs it, you can probably get by with just once before or after a workout if you aren't pushing yourself.

I agree with avoiding Creatine.

And finally, to those advocating Sleep, that is GREAT advice. Your body doesn't repair itself in your waking hours, it's when you sleep. Shit, if I remember right, when you excercise you body isn't burning fat, it just causes you to prduce the chemicals that your body needs in order to burn fat when your sleeping. I know that doesn't really relate to gain, but it probably works the same way with gaining muscle mass.

Just my 2 cents, and some of it may be wrong. Your best bet would be to do research through the proper channels. :D

The answer is the aging process the longer you eat the fatter you get, when i was 17 i was only 9 1/2 stone at 6 ft and looked very thin and was always rake thin from a young age, by time i was 25 i was 13 1/2 stone at 6ft 3ins and had a stocky build, im now 36 and weigh 16 stone at 6ft 3ins, so it shows in time you pile on the weight.

But when i was 17 the thing i did when i made a conscious decision to gain weight was to supplement the meals i had during the day, i drank a pint of full fat milk after each main meal this helped to increase the size of my stomach, so i could eat bigger portions at meal times and not feel full and I also did some form of sport so it didnt all turn into fat.

This combination of supplementing my main meals with full fat milk which in turn helped me to eat bigger meals helped me put on weight successfully when before i didnt seem to put weight on at all.
