I am unsure what exactly this does but I've read a cpl ppl say to use it with RSS feeds to help indexing. Since indexing is my main priority right now I wanna test it out.

I took a look at the site and was confused and didn't know what to do so could someone give me a better idea...

Also how does it help with indexing? the vague idea I have is it makes more RSS feeds from ones you already have or something but that is all I know atm...

pipes go in, links go out. can't explain that.

  3. Yahoo Pipes is a mashup tool. So basically what you can do is take data from a source (rss/excel/csv/webservice/xml ) transform as you needed (ofcourse it has limitations and you need expertise to perform several advanced transformations) and output them into whatever form you want (rss/xml etc)

Some examples input zipcodes and you can represent them on a map.

If you more interested in technicalities it runs on python engine and uses pearl regex.

Mashups were kinda really hyped 4/5 years back , Microsoft and google had their tools too but shutdown. Yahoo Pipes was the first and still existing and promised that they try to keep project alive.

I would read complete documentation before I decide to use on production site. It has several rules like how many requests from one ip can be made and all that. Good Luck.

  6. Ranko,

Yes you can use it get indexed. But , But , not in abusive way. Just for your own purpose, works good for one site. As I said it has limitations and if you wanna use it as tool for indexing, you need to understand schema of xml/rss. Anything you mess it would leave adverse effects.

If you want to use it as bulk indexing tool forget it. Not worth the pain. Look into something else.

You really didn't explain much in that post except saying...don't do it that would be naughty which from experience usually means it would be really effective :D

Can you tell me the reasons for how it helps get indexed (different to standard RSS/bookmarking)? that is what I was asking in my OP.

  8. I'm sorry If I didn't answer your question in specific. It doesn't mean I don't want to or I don't know ( I only reply on threads which I have experience with ) . It just means that I don't have enough information to answer. Why don't you just give a shot with pipes. It's a powerful tool if used in right way. 0.01% is indexing, you can do lot better things. If you have any question just post here.

Are you trying to index title of rss ? are you trying to index the content (which might include links) of rss ? Where is your output ? Do you have a well formed , high authority website where you can output pipes data ? What is the format you want to deal ?

It may or may not be different than social bookmarking. Depends on how you use it. Just think like this how does a link get indexed ? Google spider has to visit it. So how to make google spider visit ?

    1) Submit site to google/webmaster tools

    2) Leave a link to your site on a webpage which is already indexed.

    3) Leave a link to your site where every new webpage created is indexed.(ex: twitter)

so it depends on your output , input and how you are transforming. Because google spider may treat your yahoo pipes content as junk coz its not well formed. Remember getting output on pipes is nothing because its user friendly even though u do some mistakes it still shows you , but the real problem comes when you parse the data and update the data.
