    Hey everyone!

My website is ranked on the search engines for..."too many" keywords. I have a sports website and it has 1200+ articles. All of them are indexed and I get 200-300 visits from SE's daily. However, I am wondering if it's possible to increase the rankings of all articles at once by improving domain's SEO?

I know...I can't explain it. Here is what I have in mind.
My article, which is located at website.com/the-article is ranked on Google page 2 for "article" keyword
My article located at website.com/the-example is ranked on Google page 3 for "example" keyword
My article located at website.com/and-another-one is ranked on Google page 4 for "one" keyword

Now, if I want to improve the rankings on these articles on Google, I will have to optimize them, build backlinks, do social signals etc. right?

But, is there any way to move them up at the same time? Would building more backlinks to website.com increase the rankings of all the articles? I was always confused about this SEO thing - I first thought it's all about the website (website.com), but then I was told it's about ranking of pages (website.com/something-something).

Is it possible to rank all the articles better at once?
    Thanks!

What you can do is, reference the other articles that you want to rank for in the articles that are ALREADY ranking, BUT it would be better if they were somewhat related.

See what the news sites; like mashable, new york post, etc. are doing.

Look at a few of their articles and you'll see a pattern.

Thank you, I'll check it out!

And well...I have related articles at the bottom of each article, I don't really know if that counts though.

You can try PDF distribution and promote via social signals. And try to build tier 2 backlinks

If you build backlinks to one page then it will be for one page only. Building backlinks to one simply does not work for all articles.

If your domain has a high PR then articles that you continue to publish on that website will be considered "better" by Google and will take priority over some other sites, but if the keywords are of any competition then you will have to build links to those inner articles.

you can build links for individual page for a individual keyword. Then it will increase your targeted page rank only on Google search engine.

You can optimize the each page separately by adding backlinks for quicker result. But, if you did proper interlinking structure and some backlinks to home page and social signals to home page and inner pages will give more boost. Also, you can try giving reference to those inner pages from home page under the topic "Popular Articles" with the exact targeting keyword as anchor.

My problem is very similar to you. All these times I thought that just witting content will be enough to rank. Now I have a site with around 300+ indexed pages and all of them are on page 2-3 for hundreds of keywords. The only problem is getting them ranked on the 1st page...

Let's see what others have to say on this...

The best answer is manually create backlinks through guest posting and blog commenting. for blog commenting use commentLuv, for onpage seo use seo plugin by yoast.

At once? Maybe not, you might even get penalized by Google if you do extreme backlinking in a short time period. If you are new to SEO it may be hard to explain, but for me, I would buy or get a high PR backlink from a different website with relevant content and link back to my article. I'm not sure if you got that but you can do some more research to understand it better.

Make Quality and fresh content, make natural and relevant links, do social signals and use google alerts about each article.

I am so glad I am not the only one having this problem! Almost all my keywords are ranking on page 2-3 The only problem is I do not want to build backlinks to each page individually just to rank each keyword that would be super expensive. Makes me wonder if i can send backlinks to my homepage and have a good onsite seo to transfer link juice to each articles keyword.

Ever wondered why Big sites rank for thousand of keywords without building links for these keywords?
Why Yahoo will outrank you even when you have X3 backlinks?

Build some **strong** backlinks to your home page, let the PR flow and you should see more traffic coming.
You might not be #1 like you wanted, but who cares? Most people don't search for the exact term, there are longtails - you'll get those.

You need to build up your domain authority. That will take time but as age helps with that but if you also build backlinks and social bookmarking to the home page that will help in the short term like the interior pages. That will then flow down to the interior pages.

make sure your on page SEO is on point. I would make sure that your KW density is < 1.5%

Don't use tags, use lots of synonyms make sure title and H1 is properly done. Use lots of LSI keywords.
