I've got a number of sites up and running, but only a handful that I am promoting in an effort to make money.

The sites I'm promoting often end up ranking well in Google, but for whatever reason, they tend not to climb as well on Yahoo.

This is pretty much across the board except for one site which is flipped around, ranking well in Yahoo and not Google.

What types of things do you have to mix in to your site in order for Yahoo to like it that is not already part of the standard-operating-procedure for Google?

LoL, I wish I had that problem. Yahoo is the only search engine I can rank highly in. I really don't know why but Yahoo loves my sites. Google on the other hand snubs me like I'm a bum asking for change on 5th avenue. And even with my high rankings in Yahoo I don't bring in more that a couple dozen organics a day.

I've been wondering the same thing. I've got plenty of ebooks on optimizing for Google, anyone have a book on website optimization for Yahoo?

Any theories at least? My guess would be that Yahoo doesn't filter out the crap. (redundant keywords, links from spam sites, etc.)

The only thing I can see on my sites is that the one site that ranks well in Yahoo does not have a lot of backlinks...but it does have 1,400 posts and it has the keyword phrase fused in the domain itself.

My other sites that rank well in Google do not have as many pages of content, but they do have a real effort to build backlinks to them.

Maybe Yahoo puts more weight on whether or not the keyword phrase is the root of the domain and number of pages while Google looks more for backlinks?

The idea is to let the search engines find you.

One good idea is to open one or more free accounts on Flickr and upload some pics and add links back to your site from the individual pics pages and also from your Flickr profile(s). Another way is to ask and answer questions in Yahoo Answers with different user ids and through a VPN et al. But probably the best way is to pay for a submission into the Yahoo directory. It is somewhat pricey, but being listed by the Big Y carries some very serious weight for sure. Good luck.

    Comparing 2 of my website..

    1. Gets high google traffic.. ratio is almost 95:5 (Google:Yahoo)

    2. Gets high Yahoo traffic .. ratio is 80:20...

The first site has 10k pageviews whereas the 2nd one has around 200 pageviews a day. I did not do anything with the second site.. didn't submit to engines,dir.. nothing at all. Just commented on few personal blogs and now I can see yahoo potential too..

But again, all are after Google and therefore everyone optimizes the site for Google..
