Is this impossible? I mean I have some money, but its only good for at most a month of SEO. I heard that all of the poor man's SEO tactics have been killed by Google. That is
    -reciprocal linking
    -guest posting
    -free blog directories
-paid text links (although I can't afford this)

What should I do? Should I just give up? I live on a fixed income that does not change.

you dont need money for SEO if you have time.

Guest bloging still works (not as well, but still good)

There are tons of methods on BHW to get links onto websites, and if you look you will find ways of getting inbound links.

Easiest way I know is going to tumblr, wordpress, and websites that are similar, set up small blogs with like 5 post each, and link one of the posts.

Write relevant content, post it on Web 2.0 sites, link back to your site and BOOM, you have back links for free.

There are a zillion free sites that you can use to do that and there are some threads here that list them for you to help you out some.

You can wlays go to the freebies section and see if anyone is offering any there. There is also the option of going to High PR website with do-follow links, creating a profile, and adding your website to your profile. This can be a bit tedious but it is free.

Hi I'm new, would 10 posts each have more of an impact than 5 post each? Or are you saying after 5 posts that is all the power that can be made from it?

Like others said, guest posting still works if you can make sure it's high enough quality and the site isn't full of garbage guest posts. SEO is all about time and energy. Make your site an amazing resource and it will generate links naturally. Get into your industry with social accounts, find out what they are hungry for. Write a really good resource article and then pitch it to others in your same industry as something they may want to respond to or link to on their own blogs or social accounts. Make a high quality infographic and do the same type of outreach. You need to get creative if you don't have the budget. Think about why you share certain things, and then try to tap into that in your community.

There are 2 ways to go, one is to make a big blog and link from it. It will have more impact than a small 5 post one.

I am saying 5 posts is about the minimum you would want to go since otherwise it can look fake, and look like you are trying SEO.

If blogs have more than 5 posts they will be higher valued, assuming all the posts index somewhere on google. BUT, im not sure how much adding extra posts will help you. I honestly try going more for organic linking, I dont SEO myself unless i really have to. Otherwise I just promote on facebook, and other social media. People usually link to my site after that.

As long as your content is good, people will link others to it.

    Free high qualiy links :
    - Create web 2.0 accounts and post high quality content linking them to your website
    - Create accounts in question answers sites and post questions, and answer them with different accounts.
    - Post your website to free Press release sites. I generally use - Prlog. I have noticed that my Press releases get retweeted by people. So, it gives links from social networks too. Even though google has said that they hate press releases.
    - Search blogs and post comments with your links. If your comments are good, blog owners will accept you comment and link.
    - Sign up to business social network. and post good content about your website there.
    - Create and post videos with your links in description. Videos give you more links from sites that embed youtube videos.
    - There are many more methods to created backlinks for free. Read the forum threads on link building to know more. :)

If your business model isn't worth you spending money (ANY money at that) on SEO you may want to rethink wasting your time on that business model.

If you have no money to spend on seo, go through the marketplace and see what services get good feedbacks, then try and figure out how you could do whats offered by yourself. Take a look at web2.0s and all.

If you can write quality content by your own, then web2.0 is the best option to generate back link to your site. Profile linking from top profile linking sites, few top social bookmarking sites will works for you to get back links. check for the competitor back links from free back link checker tools available in the market and start sending mails to them asking for back links (out of 100 you may get at least 1 or 2 quality links). Yes, guest posting will work. So don't give up, every thing is in your hands

I've just sent you a list to your PM. Go through that whole list one by one. They are all safe and be smart about it, don't just post your link, get creative. If you need any more help then let me know, we've all been there man, the hardest part is the start, the truest thing I've got to know is that the saying - " You need money to make money " is so true. Good luck.

I know those sites will have a Page Rank of 0 cause whenever I check my free tumblr and wordpress sites they had a PR of 0 although tumblr and wordpress have a good PR. Are you saying that it helps even though the ranking of the pages those links are on have no ranking?
