I have been going to some more local meetups recently and you get asked this all the time, it is pretty tedious having that same convo all the time actually. I avoid it. I find the more boring the person the more quickly they will fall back on the boring 'what do you do' routine. But it comes up sooner or later whoever you speak to unless they were some extreme liberal or something or you by chance hit on some really interesting hobby you are both into or something. I at first say 'Internet Marketing' but often, since it isn't clear to the uninitiated what that is, they will question further what that entails. I usually still try and be vague with 'you know just advertise on social media and stuff' but they will still probe deeper wanting to know the exact steps of how one makes money from this. Ive found myself, once out of ideas for how to sugar coat it, ending up just saying I spam but I notice people find people turn their noses up a bit when you say this. Not that I mind the judgement really since people who would be offended by this are boring and closed minded anyway and so I wouldnt want to talk to them most likely but I find it is a nuisance in that it attracts yet more questions. So how can I still deflect their barrage of questions? I have once or twice just said Im a dustbin man and they didnt have anything to say then . I would do that again in general chat places but I am planning to go to some techy meetups soon so I will definitaly be talking tech stuff with fellow techers so I want to have a good cover story for a 'socially acceptable' explanation of what I do. Thoughts?
