How do Ads Rank?

    So i've been doing quite a bit of research on PPC lately, and I have noticed that in Google Search, the #1 ad switches between different advertisers every time you refresh the page, and the same for every other spot.

    My question is, does anyone know how this ranking is determined? It seems that you can no longer aim for the #3 position (for example), but instead must aim for a range (maybe 2-5?) I've seen the ads jump around quite a bit so it seems like this range is pretty big. I assume that it's based on weighted percentages or something of that matter.


    Can anyone please elaborate on this? I would be more than happy to listen to you. :)

    ctr, max cpc and QS is what is is all about. shoot for a 10/10 quality score and then make sure your ad copy gets you a higher CTR then anyone else and you will beat them out. the reason is it jumping like that is because all the ads are so close regarding all three of those factors that just a small change in the ctr is making them jump around. hope that helps.

    there's also the fact that ads aren't displayed all the time if they're limited by the daily budget. so each ad up there could be displaying for anywhere from 20%-90% of the time for each page refresh, and if u have like 30 ads all doing this at once its gonna look very random.
