How difficult is to rank a health site? Medical degree needed?

    Hi everyone,

I recently started an soon-to-be authority site in the health niche. With the site covering a broad medical condition like "headaches" or "muscle aches" and the many different types and forms they come in.

I understand that the health niche is the one of the most competitive on the internet, and was wondering how hard it would be to rank for the terms I've mentioned above. I'm talking how much initial investment for back-links, press releases and all that.

Along with this an article at: http: //bit.ly/ 10yAHVz

Stating that Google will rank lowly any health related site which doesn't present a medical degree, or any certification of the writers being genuine doctors. (I don't have a medical degree).

The site seems quite dodgy, and I'm not really inclined to believe it - however.

I was just wondering if there was anyone out there that has properly ranked for a health niche such as the ones mentioned, and a brief description of how they did so.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

First error: you started to make "a soon to be authority" site withouth keyword research

Second error: you want to rank for health - without any knowledge of SEO

    My advice:

Stop working on the site. Now, it's a complete waste of time. Others that are in position will just use your content (on page 7).

Learn about SEO, IM and all that stuff. You're in the right place.

Then, do your homework, pick a niche, try to rule it, rinse and repeat.

Ranking a health niche for "headache", "muscle ache" and the likes will take 5 to 10 months. You should set aside about $7, 000+ for SEO only. What you need is a top notch SEO guru and back links. Most importantly, your site should be geared towards earning profit and income so that you can start recovering your money from the traffic you will be receiving.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

However you might of misunderstood me.

I've already got around 10 MNS sites which are earning me around $20+ a day, so I'm not a complete newbie at this IM business.

However the keyword analysis was outsourced, all the SEO optimized articles were written by me, as well as the social media, video campaigns.

The site is basically just a domain at the moment, so I haven't started anything significant. I've already have a niche in mind and keyword research has been done by me as well, showing an obvious high competition.

I was simply trying to expand my IM portfolio by doing something a bit more larger than my many MNS sites which I have at the moment. Thinking, authority sites were the way to go (I'm a medical student so I thought a medicine related niche would suit my interests).

    Thanks for the advice John,

I was definitely under-estimating the real amount of work needed for an authority in the health niche.

The jump from MNS, straight to a health authority was probably a bit far-fetched for my current situation.

HalfBoyFly, very well, congrats to your success!

If I were you I would try to go to $100 a day with your existing sites by reinvesting all your MNS income into the top 2 or 3. Maybe you can broaden their scope a little to rank for harder keywords?

I'm in a similar situation. My site is 1.5 years old now and has around 90 articles on it. Haven't really been taking it too seriously as i'm in school but it gets around 80 uvs a day currently. Hopefully this summer I can properly do some seo for it.

Do you really think that Google has a team dedicated to investigating health websites to determine whether the authors have degrees or not?

No way. Only issue you may have is if you use dodgy SEO practices to get to the top rankings and a competitor outs you to Google somehow or Google comes across your website. Which by the way is the only way you could get a site to rank for those competitive keywords.

Your up against webmd a giant authority site, well if you could hire a doctor to write articles for you then why not jk. My advice would be scale the competition first - test it with limited budget start slow if your seeing some progress then push it harder.

I used to make $2M per year and after latest Google updates dropped to nothing. Trying to recover, but its so difficult. My site was huge, I was getting 2000+ targeted visitors per day from organic search. No affiliates.
