It's about half way through the school year for me (NZ schooling starts feb - dec)

Anyways, I'm just struggling to find the motivation to do work, and I didn't do as well as I hoped to do in my Chemistry exam last week. I try to keep my grades as high as possible, and they are pretty good but can be better.

How well did you guys do in schoool?

I was bored a lot.I coudn't stand the teachers who kept repeating the same things over and over.
Didn't get to choose anything when I was young under parent's care.
I had also a great family pressure to do great things school wise which ofc it didn't happen.
End up doing marketing post high school, then degree in internet marketing (cancelled) then business school in entrepreneurship (got fired from day work which lead me to drop out)
Only after all this, i worked very hard.

School remains important imo if you can afford to go through. It is a good safety net.

Ah, school! Not that's one roller coaster from hell I won't ever miss!

If you're asking about school overall, then I suppose I'll start with elementary school. During the first half of elementary school, I was frequently in the principal's office for "bad behaviour", however at the time I was dealing with issues at home, so I cared very little about academic performance. Once those issues cleared up, the second half of elementary school was great: I got perfect grades and I was subsequently placed in the GATE program after some testing.

Middle school was terrible. I started getting bullied by students and teachers, my grades were below average, and everything was just inundating. I had one principal who used to call me into his office every few days for my "treatments"; he made me look into a mirror for about 30 minutes out of the school day while he told me that it was my fault that the kids harassed me, and that if I acted the way they wanted me to, then I would have friends. "Tell yourself 'I will be a better person; I will be different'".

High school was "different". The first year, my grades were average, although I had friends for once, so it wasn't too bad. The second year was when my grades were excellent (3.5 GPA) and I actually had a ton of friends. I didn't have a junior year, but my last year was medicore, although I maintained the same GPA as the previous year.

The first time I attended college, it was only for 1 semester. I went full-time and got a 3.8 GPA (some assignments unfortunately required the school books, which I never ordered because I'm cheap), although I stopped attending due to similar reasons that HostStage mentioned (teacher repetition and family pressure). I started going back this last semester online, although part-time only. Online classes are hilariously easy and I have a 4.0 right now (they give you 4 attempts on each test and it's easy to deduce which answers are right without studying beforehand).

I did good in school, high school and college. I did party alot, smoked alot of bud almost daily, but one thing i did early on even in middle school is developed good study habits.
It was like second nature to me to just pay attention in class and do my work soon as i got home. Never missed Honor roll list in high school and graduated college with 3.8gpa with 3 degrees.

this in no way implies i am "smarter" then average, i believe this purely equates to my study habits. I have had to get extra help from tutors before, i always stayed on top of my work, i knew early on if i needed help and seeked it. Maybe it sounds cliche, but i did find that when i smoked before exams, i was more relaxed and it calmed me down. I was able to focus more and comprehend the questions.

If there is one thing i sucked balls at was grammar, lol

One thing about it thou, now that i am a bit older, the things i learned in college really don't apply to much to the situations that i face in the real world. If ever! IMO, its mostly about reading, retaining, and marking the right questions, long enough to get the good grade. Whether or not you keep this knowledge is of no concern to the teachers or institution. Kind of sad really.

I have had a handful of teachers and advisers that were really cool, and did truly care about students, how they were doing. I had a professor in College that threw us a keg party at his house, it wasn't a huge blow out, it was an advanced networking course and by the end of it, out of like 60 students only 12 were left. So it was a good time. He was probably one of my favorite Professors, He had a strong military background, I do remember the first course i took with him, he throw an eraser pad at this guys head for fucking off in class, told him to get out. Some students thought of him as a dick, but really he hated students that wasted his time. He even picked me up at 3 am once cause i was out drunk and needed a ride.

In my area they give rankings for every class at the end of the year and I was regularly in the top three. Dropped out of college as what I plan to do with my life does not involve getting educated the 'conventional way'. I just take short term course every now and then for specific areas that I am interested in.

School life was fun though. Nice to meet friends everyday and attend classes. I loved school.

Not so good.I lacked motivation for school even before I discovered IM.Elementary (1-4?) was Good, Middle school (4-8) was a living hell, mostly because of my total lack of social skills and inability to express my dumb past self and

Highschool (8-12) was ok, though in the last years I thought that most of the classes was a waste of time especially literature where instead of what you think you need to write what the teachers or the majority thinks which completely killed my motivation since at that time I discovered IM so I ended my studying with highschool graduating with slightly above average grades

I did really good at school. The key is doing your homework during the easy boring classes. Then by the time you get home you can get wasted all you want without guilt.
Always prep for test the night before, this includes all nighters if you must. Study by writing stuff down, it goes in the brain easier. Keep writing it down until you distill entire test to a tiny cheat sheet.
Take mental snap shot of cheat sheet, put it in your back pocket. Pull out in emergencies.
This is how you get A's and stay wasted most of the time. Probably not gona get you to Ivy school cuz they need other activities then partying. GL!

If someone told me in high school I can succeed online I would probably become a high school dropout rather than college dropout. Chemistry, god I didn't like that one. I did like to experiment with chemicals at home, though. Burned a lot of sweaters with acid, blew up things, burned things... my parents were really "proud" of me and happy I kept all the fingers.

I failed everything, but I am fluent in the language of Bullshit. That's all that matters to be successful.
