How did auto posting bots found my forum?

Something weird happened few days ago when I started getting shitload of spammy links on my forum ranging from casino and porn links to tier 2 backlinks.

Now, what I don't understand what made them found my forum after so long. The thing is I have it for more than 5 years. It isn't active for at least two years, but I keep it alive, as well as the website.

I never had someone posting backlinks on the forum until just recently. Around a week ago I started creating a new website which is in tech niche, same as forum and my old website. I decided to post a link on forum and website to my new site to get things started. After posting links bots somehow found my forum and started blasting spam links all over the place.

My question here is how did they found the forum after such a long time? Did posting a link had something to do with it (I guess it obviously did, but why)?

Yeah I know, but as you said it took them so long. That what surprised me as well. There has to be something I did that made them find it, that's what I'm wondering.
