How come google still knows what county I'm in?

Hey,

I just bought a personal Canadian proxy at xroxy, setup everything as it should be. Now when I go and check my IP on ip site checker it does says I'm somewhere near Torronto and that I do have a different IP adres. However, when I go to google, google still displays the google webpage of the country from where I'm surfing, even if I use google.com or google.fr, I still get the page with my native language. How is this possible?

Did you do the basic stuff - clear cookies, cache, everything on your comp? And doublecheck google's settings also if you're using iGoogle thingy.

google may be using the session hijacking process!!!!Try to restart ur computer and don't open any site or anything...just put the proxy first and start doing ur work which u wnat to do from the proxy!!!

Check if you have really activated the proxy's plugin/s for your browser. When sometimes I reinstall my Firefox, I find that my HideMyIp isn't activated for Firefox, while it shows the activation is on!

I have to then add the HideMyIp's specific add-on for the Firefox. So if you are using Firefox, check the connection settings and confirm that the proxy is working. Also flush your system cache and cookies regularly. FF can easily do that for you.

Else, talk to the customer support. Hope this helps!

I did everything your supposed to do, filled in the proxy and then cleared everything. I use firefox 3.010 and I don't have any plugins installed. Oh, and I run on xubuntu 9.04, don't know if that matters.

edit: I do get the option in google that says: "go to Canadian Google". But it remains in my native language. Also when I go to youtube.com it's in my native language.

You don't need a plugin to use a proxy in firefox right?

in firefox, have you gone and changed the settings under tools > options > content > Languages 'choose your preferred language for displaying pages' ?

OMG, this was indeed the case, damn i feel stupid :twitch:. Do you think I've left a footprint because I logged in to my EPN account after I'd setup the proxy?

you can use a free software that I use, I guess its called cccleaner. It clears away all cookies and cache at the click of a mouse. easy peesy

Normally, i.e., if you install HideMyIp after you have installed FF, you don't need to manually add the HMIP's plugin. It is done automatically. Also if you upgrade the FF, without deleting the FF folder entirely, you don't need to add the HMIP plugin.

But, as in my case, sometimes I need to delete my FF folder entirely (due to virus or my FF not working entirely to my satisfaction), then I have to add the following plugin manually, because in this case, the HMIP is already installed, but the FF is newly installed, so HMIP isn't able to add the plugin automatically.

Please take note: I am not just reinstalling FF over a copy of FF, I am deleting the FF entirely, even its "Documents and Settings" and all registry entries, so I must add the plugin.

(BTW, if anybody needs a good uninstaller, I have found that the "Rev*o Uni*nstaller" does a very good job of cleaning out with you having almost complete control over what to weed out.)
