How Can You Really Check If A Domain Hasn't Been Abused

I've got a domain name that I want to use for an authority site. I'm not trying to leverage the previous reputation/power of the site, because there is none. I simply want to know if it was clean and will rank like a fresh domain would.

I've used majestic and it has never had any links going to it according to them. I've also looked in archive.org and see 2 dates where it had a host parking page from a decade ago, 1 blank white page with nothing on it from 2011, and 2 more dates where archive.org doesnt give any information and returns the "Hrm. Wayback Machine doesn't have that page archived" when you click through.

I then analyzed the source code of the date where the page is blank and see this:

<META name="keywords" content="Orlando Central Florida Altamonte Springs Winter Springs St Augustine Casselberry Maitland Winter Park Apoka Jacksonville Tampa Daytona party event conventions special theme parties team building models joc action procucers a ez dj cover girls posing talent sexy host co-host new original interactive shows a better choice disc jockey entertainment peter cori photo photography images art work abstracts tv game show shows beach dance disc jockey services mobile wedding prices professional music company producers abcdj abcjoc action cover girls a ez dj banquet prices banquets catered weddings cutie fruit orlando dj swap shop team building event foto stars hit surf party of parties peter cori see me sing america us soft lit we all surf xldjweb karaoke xs your knot zip e deals transportation video trailer video movie agents rental ">

My first question is whether that looks like something that is spammy or whether that is likely just an old parking page which had those keywords as ads?

My second question is, considering companies buy used domains all the time, is there not a more definitive way to tell if it isn't penalized by google or not. If I buy it and it indexes, that still doesn't prove whether it was permanently penalized in some way. So it seems like you'd never really know until its too late.

With that said, the site is still indexed from the godaddy parking page. And if I type (domain)space(com), it shows up as number three.

Can any experts chime in on this?

Really? ;) Do you have anything to back your statement?

This domain is a bit spammy. Look at the diverse portfolio of keywords it's trying to rank for on a "blank page."

OP, I would recommend that you check the back links and anchor text to see if there is spam, so that you can confirm if it's spam or not. I would approach that domain with caution.

I think that the meta comes from parking page, so it really doesn't matter in this particular case.

If it's still indexed and you are sure, that it's fine history wise, then you are good to go. But if you really need a thorough check, send it to me via PM and I can take a look if you want.

Why don’t you check the NS for this certain year that shows blank page. It’s easy to spot if this is from parking page or not while looking at the WHOIS. If this is from parking page then I think this is fine. But for me, I don't want domains that all of their pages are blank or a long gap before it was picked up by someone.

There are other factors also that a site can be penalized by Google. It could be that the cause was before you bought it or after you do your on-page and off-page SEO.

Now someone correct me if I'm wrong here but if you're worried about it why not just go with a different domain name or a .net instead of a .com? Can be quite tricky because I've seen sites deindexed with literally 2 to 3 backlinks because back in 2011 someone sold links from the site and blocked crawls on wayback.

Another suggestions might be to registrar two, park one page that is fresh/zero risk. Then if someone goes wrong with other just transfer content and redirect (or not redirect you're call)
