how can i track a UK mobile phone please .... NOT USA , uk only.

Track based on the phone number? Not unless you're the police. Or Google, who usually have access to an Android phone's location.

its funny to think this is illegal, yet the government does it to every one of us, without our consent. how fucked up is that?

Do you know the individual you're trying to track? If so, learn how to become a stealthy stalker and give it a try. Just make sure the individual doesn't know you. If they do, you're going to need a good disguise! Shave your hair off or something.

Pretty much , the only way to track a mobile phone it's to either have full control over the sim card or the OS the phone is running up with , so you CAN'T
EDIT: there seem to be some to-purchase apps that can do the thing for you but the owner of the phone should have the app installed so I guess its still something you can do , maybe you could install it on your gf's phone
