    Hey guys

not sure if I am right here because I dont know too much about this SEO thing. I have an online shop which ranked well for the last 1,5 years. Some weeks ago I dropped drastically. My SEO told me that this was probably due to bad backlinks by competitors. We had that before in the past. (Its not a nice biz I am in...)

Back then we could find and remove this trash. But now we cant. SEO believes that they hide the backlinks by some tools and that there is no way we could make them visible.

But I cannot believe that. I mean it is my site so I should be able to see all links going to my site??

Is there any tool I could use to see those "hidden links"?

Your help is very much appreciated.

    Jack

I checked webmasters. Could not find anything weird.

Is it possible to hide links so I as website owner cannot see them?

Upto me, there is no tool to check the hidden backlinks.. Use the backlinkwatch(dot)com to get the backlinks.. And I read one question like this before some where in other forums.. Someone has gave solution and I checked that too.. You can find the backlinks through "View page source" by doing right click on your screen.. Hope this may help..

NOTE: With hidden I dont mean that the links are not visible. They are visible when I know the side. What my seo explained that they used some tools like these PBN guys use to hide their sites from competitors. Now they use "bad PBN" against me. How can I find them in webmaster tools or else?

I mean google sees the links so they should show the information to me as website owner as well!

I'm pretty sure they aren't using PBN links to harm your site. Those don't come cheap. Links that could harm your site are shitty spammy ones like blog comments.

You are right that webmaster tools should be able to see those links, if you can't then your SEO is shitting you. There's no point trying to hide links form g00gle if it's meant to harm your site.

Thanks Danny. I try to understand that now. Does that mean I should see all links in webmaster? Because my seo also built PBN for me but he told me he would hide it so the competition could not see. And he also told me I could not see my own PBNs in webmasters because of this hiding tool.

When I dont see anything in webmasters does this mean then: Those PBNs do not exist and he is shitting me??

I have some problems to really explain my question because I am not so deep in SEO myself.

I try it again and hope you can understand and help me.

There are tools like spider spank to hide PBNs. When you use those tools for your PBNs others will not see your PBN links to your moneysite. (Or at least it is a lot harder for them.)

BUT: Do I still see my own backlinks in WMT?

Example: Lets say I have the PBN site XYZ linking to my moneysite ABC. Now I use this hiding tool. Others cannot see then the link XYZ ---> ABC

But can I see myself the link XYZ ---> ABC in my ABC webmaster tool?

    @aussiejack,

I suggest you go to the BHW marketplace thread and try reading the link building thread.

You might find a few BHW reputed members there to ask about your problem.

I dont remember where did I read about bad backlink removal thread.

    It will help you greatly.

    Thanks,
    Castiel.

Im not sure I would be too happy with your seo guy. Hes the one to tell you whats the problem and how you fix it. If my mechanic cant fix my car then hes my ex mechanic.

A tool like Spiderspank just blocks web crawlers like ahrefs, majestic etc and is more meant to keep your backlinks hidden from competitors not google. You can block sites from google but they wont be indexed and in your webmaster tools.

Without looking at your site and links the only short term solution I can say is study all your links as indexed in webmaster tools and disavow any that you dont specifically know about building yourself. But I think your seo guy is blowing smoke and doubt you are going to find any hidden/cloaked/injected links pointing at your site and bringing you down.

You should be able to see everything in Google Webmaster Tools.

Your competitors can block crawlers to backlink monitor tools like Ahrefs, Majestic, Open Site Explorer etc. however everything should/will show up in your Google Webmaster Tools account.

If google can see the links to your website then google sees them and they should be in GWT. If the links are hidden from GWT, it means google can't see them and thus it can't penalise you for them.
Seems to me that your SEO doesn't know what he/she is talking about. Ask them to define "hidden links".

You should use Linkdetox.com to understand your link profile. And then you can Disavow all the links you think they are creating the problem.

The system used to hide the PBN generally hide the redirection from the common editor to your page or block minor spider like Majestic SEO, MOZ etc..., not Google.
Once the link is in place it is like a normal link and Google know it.

But if the kind of website you own has a bad link profile probably is not a problem generated by your competitor, but by your links profile.

Are you sure you are not on PBN that have been deindexed?

First of all, you need to find a new SEO person... He is saying that you can't see his PBN links in GWT because he's hiding them, why would he be hiding those links from google??? He is lying as he didn't build you any PBN links so he feeds you all the bullsh(i)t.
He might have bought some links for you so you ranked then he decided to cancel those links and just bank your money. Watch this, he might come out soon and offer you a service of finding non-existent bad PBN links LOL

Most likely your SEO guy failed to keep your site on the top of the SERPs or he used some shady stuff to get it there and now he is throwing the fault to your competitors. Spammy links like guestbooks, pingbacks, spammy comments and directories cannot be hidden because your competitors does not own the websites and they cannot block crawling bots like ahrefs. The only links that can be hidden are the PBN links but i dont see how they can harm you with these. My suggestion is you better look for another SEO guy.
