How can i prove i gave the company the lead?

    I've moved from rep management to local SEO, snack pack.

    I have a big client with a verified google business with some citations, they dont rank and obviously need my services.

    i'm just not sure how to prove to the client that the lead came from me without changing their phone number on their Google Business listing, but then it wont match on their website itself.

    How do you guys fix this?

    you mean changing their phone number to a trackable one?

    You can't really do much in terms of tracking phone calls generated without messing with the consistency of the NAP. There isn't really a way around this that I know of. You'll have to just do rank tracking and talk about gains there.

    As said by Andrew above, don't screw around your NAP consistency by adding a tracking number.

    I would suggest adding a lead capture form on the website and add an event in GA once it is filled out. Showing the advertiser their ROI is extremely important across all levels of marketing. With SEO this is tricky to do. If the campaign is new be sure to document all increases in traffic, adding a goal in GA for contact page hits is rough but shows the business owner what you are doing is working.

    For a quick win i would suggest setting up and optimizing the Google my business listing, keep an eye on the insights in Google My Business as they are usually impressive.

    You wont screw up NAP if you put the tracked number on the page with javascript.
    All providers do that as far as i know, since they already aware of this "problem".

    I have also a client that only uses phone calls. I asked for a 2-3% discount to the owner.

    I have something like tell us that you came from our website and you will have 2% discount.

    Now they know that the lead came from the website.

    With every site i seo that is dependent on a number of lead generation techniques, i have the receptionist draw up the average number of incoming calls, email enquiries, contact page enquiries (if they have one) walk ins , carrier pigeons etc over a full week. I get the company to sign off on them as an average and I then have the receptionist contunue with daily updates to me personally and the marketing exec, ceo.
    This was we can all track progress, remember , increased ranks may not increase incoming leads unless you have correct CTA's on each page .

    may be you can track the statistics of how much calls they get before your service and after your service!

    This would work very well if you can trust that the company is honest and organized.

    This also leaves it open to debate if the "above average" results are due to organic growth the company is otherwise engaged in (few stop whatever else they are doing) or the lead generation / seo work one is doing for them. Need something that specifically identifies the new lead as one driven by our work.

    Lead generations. Build your own site, outrank them. Hold them ransom and demand a ridiculous amount so they can buy your website. Bank.

    They give you a number you can put on your site that redirects to any number you choose

    +1 - definitely a great way to prove your skills. Or build like 3 sites, and sell all the leads to them on a per-lead basis. If they ever try to fire you, you just sell the leads to someone else, and they lose a large portion of their business.
