    hey roomies,

looking for a NON_LANDLINE phone alternative
(can't afford the cost of a cell or prepaid,
they are a little too high right now)

We have verizon dsl and phone, but if a get
another phone it can't have any association to verizon

Any "voip" or skype" or other cheap alternative?

I'm in the U.S. and need to make calls
within the U.S. to LANDLINE phones

(i'll be making some sales calls, so I will be calling people
I do not know, as opposed to "friends")

    thanks rommies!

    Hali :)!

your best option is Ooma, check it out, free calls within the US and for a couple of bucks a month, works great and they have amazing headsets ;)

Skype unlimited US/CA is like $3 a month with forwarding and VM included, and a phone number for incoming calls is $12 a quarter or so w/ subscription. Doesn't get much cheaper than that.

    sounds like a good alternative
.... on the cheap, what kind of equip do I need anyone?

I imagine a headset with a mic, but any special type, or anything else?

    Hali~!:)

(thanks for everyone's feedback by the way :)

Skype works with built-ins or headset. As long as you have audio I/O you're good to go.

    thanks 7878,

it not only sounds very low cost at the 3 per month and 12 per quarter(for the #) and if all I need is a headset with a mic, that just make things so much for fionancial palatable....is that really all I need?

really that inexpensive? (I thought for certain there were other costs I wasn't factoring in)

I notice it says "for an allowance of minutes? so does that mean the 3$ is a fee
then I pay for minutes as well?(because if minutes are included, it didn't specify?)

    I see:

    $2.99 per month
$7.99 per month (unlimited north america)

so the 2.99 per month, no minutes included?

    Hali~!:)
