Don't focus on your domain. If the core of your SEO strategy relies on you having an exact match domain, then you're pretty much screwed. Having an EMD helps slightly, but it's not going to make your site rank in and of itself. In other words, treat your site as if it were any other site. Build backlinks, get content up, etc. Your EMD's not entirely worthless, but it's probably better to think of it as useless than not. In other words, just pretend you didn't have an EMD and build your site that way.

    Rashow,

As mentioned by PJ413, an EMD should not be the sole focus of your SEO efforts and in all actuality is probably not the reason you are seeing a drop in SERP's. Focus on making your site good for users and the rest should take care of itself.

Perhaps these posts will give you some ideas on how to get your site back on track,

This post talks more about the subject,

    http://localsearchforum.catalystema...al-exact-match-domains-still-rank-google.html

As does this one from SEOMoz,

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

There are several factors leading to EMD slap. If you can identify those factors, then you can recover EMD easily. The factors are given below:

    • Sites which have more backlinks to homepage got hit
    • Sites having 40% or more do-follow backlin got hit
    • Sits whose homepage are over-optimized homepage got hit. Overoptimized things include: high keyword density on homepage, All H1, H2, H3 tags are in homepage.
    • Sites having fewer content like 10 post or less got hit
    • Sites which have 30% or more backlink having same keyword or related keyword got hit.

Considering the factors, the solutions to recover EMDs are:

    • Make backlink to all inner pages. Don't make links all at once. Do it everyday uniformly
    • Make backlinks with more nofollow and less do-follow links
    • Don't overoptimize the homepage. You can prevent it by displaying excerpt only
    • Put more content regularly
    • Vary your anchor text while making backlink. I follow 4,3,2,1 rule. Like 40% anchor text will be generic anchor text, 30% will be website name without www, 20% will be website name with www, and 10% will be targeted keywords which I intend to rank

    Good Luck :)
