I need to check out the followers and fans of a Twitter and Facebook account.

A company has done a paid service for one of my clients and generated 700 likes and 2400 followers but something smells a bit fishy to me, Im not sure they are real people. How can I prove this and what software is available to check them out.

I would need some solid signals such as age of accounts, fake profiles etc.

any ideas on the best way to investigate this. I will pay someone for the analysis if solid evidence either way can be provided.

No easy way to do it.
It's like linking, no foolproof way of anyone saying how they were made.
You could message them all and see how many replies you get
Make an offer of £50 for a random person who replies to this post in the next 7 days
You might check how many spam affilaite links, have no bio or photo etc.

But really...there is no method that couldn't be countered by the service you used.

I have seen a threat here how to do it, but I don't know how to find it now.
You can check fans timeline, history, if they only likes pages and doesn't do anything else, they don't have a profile picture, that means they'r fake.

For Twitter I cant recommend any software but I've done it myself manually... Look for obvious file Photographs...many of these companies re-use and spin the same bios so look out for shite like "social media expert" "zombie warrior" and "bacon afficionado" Bacon is a big one for some reason...Also they get bored coming up with profile names so they might tag 100 profiles with something like "jets" or "tgn" so you have lots of followers like "alextgn" "santostgn" "matthewtgn" or similiar with spurs, 49ers,nascar that kind of thing..How long ago did they add the followers ?? depending on who added them a lot of these followers will unfollow or dissapear by themselves usually fairly quickly.

thanks for the replies. I have managed to find this which is quite helpful....its free to use the basic service but very expensive for the paid option ($500 per month)

    http://simplymeasured.com/free-social-media-tools

You can pay with a tweet for a basic report.

I ran it on the accounts and used a very well known brand in the same niche as a control. It gave me some very useful info.

The well know brand had a fairly even spread of data across all the measured metrics, such as:

Average # of followers (as in # of followers of the people following you) was an even spread between 0-10, 10-100, 100-500, 500+ etc

The Average # of followers for the account in question was 91% had 1-10 followers

    Also,

    The well known brand showed:

Average # of tweets for the followers was again a healthy spread across all the ranges.

The suspect account had 89% with less than 10 tweets.

There were many other helpful signals such as time zone of followers, age of account.
