I work at a semi large company that manufactures and distributes brand name budget electronics like earbuds, phones, tablets, speakers, as well as cheap household appliances. They have a warehouse filled with a lot of extra stock and stuff they want to get rid of it. I spoke to my boss about the possibility of using his products to sell on the internet and he is all for it. Assuming I can take a cut of every sale I make, is there really an opportunity here? I really dont know the advantage of this, compared to online affiliate offers or arbitrage, but I'm a newb so I'd like your ideas. Am I sitting on a gold mine or did I not think this through? Just a note, my boss would be open to some crazy ideas if he can see the benefit in it (I'll have his backing and resources).

Usually the more important thing is getting the audience to sell to since the affiliate scheme give you the ability to sell other people's products, but if your prices are competitive and you can offer a nice margin for the affiliates, you can try to find people to sell your stuff for commission or you could even provide a dropshipping opportunity.

You and your boss can also built an online store and promote it with PPC, media buying and growing social media accounts depending on your preferences and skills. Whatever you choose, read as many journey and method threads dealing with the same thing, it will surely help a great deal.

Anyway, I don't know if there is an opportunity for big bucks for you here (there might be), but I think the personal opportunity for you to gain some valuable IM experience with someone else's resources backing you up is something you should not miss out on! Just make sure you don't promise your boss something you cannot deliver. Always mention the risks and keep your projections conservative. This will give you a chance to overdeliver and provide a nice surprise if things work out, and hedge you from him being disappointed in you personally if for some reason the venture doesn't recoop the investment. Keep in mind that the experience will be valuable to you whatever the outcome, so do your best to get the green light on it (without promising the world).

Thanks for the informative reply, this part really caught my interest. How would I able to go about making affiliate offers to people? For example like a CPA lead offer.

And I assume the way it works is that they would have to link to my website and then get a % of every sale? And from that sale I get a % from my boss?

you can flip it all on ebay or amazon easily assuming the products are branded, good quality and competitively priced

    Couldn't have said it better.

Also, electronics' prices drop quick it's better to get rid of them as soon as possible before they go outdated and have no profit margin at all.

You're mixing up straight up affiliate schemes and CPA offers. What you described is the typical affiliate scheme where people promote your product and get a percentage of the sales. You can build your ecommerce site and then approach an affiliate hub like commission junction and try to get on as an advertiser. On the other hand CPA stands for Cost Per Action which usually means that the advertiser is paying for a particular action that is usually a sign up. It would require you to then manage to sell your products to the people that sing up and I would recommend going with the typical affiliate route if you are starting out, because CPA requires you to have a nice optimized funnel that can covert those leads (sign-ups) into sales.

The dropshipping is something that's closer to the affiliate scheme and it works as long as you find nice partners. It means that other people build online stores with their own branding that have your products listed with a markup decided by the store owner. When they make a sale, they pay you whatever your price is and keep the margin while you ship the product directly to the consumer without advertising to them that you are not really the store they bought the item from.

Something else you could do is also get on group buying sites like Groupon and so on and have a time sensitive discount offer. Depending on your location, this might do wonders since those websites have a user base that they know how to convert into sales, but sometimes the difficult part is getting on the good ones.

Make a website, replicate the website, sell the website on eBay as a turnkey website. Take a cut of all sales.

If I were you I would just put them on Ebay or something.

Appliances are not going to be the easiest things to post.... The advantage of ecommerce over affiliate offers is pretty obvious. Much higher earnings potential.

Downside, you have to deal with customers. Things will get damaged or go missing in transit, couriers will drive you mad, people will ask the same stupid questions over and over and people will phone you up wanting to pay by the phone when you have a perfectly good website.

Do people actually do this? I never heard of this idea before but its interesting. Id figure the person buying the website would want 100% of the profits, no?

Well actually I wouldnt have to worry about that much, because Id just have to direct them to my company's customer service.

You are right, that's the easiest route to take. But the more complex road has a higher learning potential and I think this is the most important opportunity to seize here for the OP.

As far as I understand here the options are ecommerce and affiliate offers on top of the ecommerce so there's always going to be customer support and shipping required unless you go with dropshipping where you would still need to ship and support the sellers.
