Ok so this thought has occurred to me a lot recently... how can Google actually ban you for finding spam links to your site?

How can they prove it was you that posted them?

So in theory, I could spam a bunch of links to a website I don't own, and get it banned?

What do you all think.

First of all they don't ban you immediately, they give you time to remove the links. It is normal for any website to receive spam comments but if you are running serious business they expect that you will clean your website from spam.

Who says they ban you? Lets start with that.
I've only seen sites get banned for on-page metrics like dupe content, cloaking, aff links, linking out to spam sites, etc.
Easier to assume that instead of banning, the links don't count.

On content managing systems it's simple to define what a comment is.
Through machine learning it shouldn't be to hard to define a comment even if they don't use a cms.
Once you defined a comment it's easy to find duplicates across the web, especially if the spammed url is always the same.

The other side of the medallion is when, by any chance, you have build a link that isn't classified as spam; you've actually helped the site you're trying to take down by giving them free links.
Irony then reaches such epic proportions it folds in on itself and slaps you on the butt.

Cheers.

I would have to agree with M.A.D .... Most of the time if you're trying to take down your competitor by building links to their site you are essentially harming yourself. You would be much better focusing on building links to your own site. I have been blasting a domain of mine with ScrapeBox practically non stop, and it reached PR3 from 0 in the last update. I have never had any problems with blasting too many links.

I agree with M.A.D ..
They ban sites for on-site "optimization" .. If you're building huge amount of backlinks you can get sandboxed for some time but ban .. I doubt

It's very simple: If you are able to spam links to a site and get it banned, the internet would die tomorrow.

Hijacking is a reality and Google can't simply allow all of their websites to just go down.

Is this true for all website? Let's say you are not so well ranked.. then nobody would benefit from spamming you so in that case google could think the other way around.. I'm just a noob, I have scrapebox and I never spammed my money site. (not a real money site since doent make any money lol)

Hmm.... so why does everyone warn you not to to use scrapebox to build links to your money site? If there is no danger, i don't get it.

well ... first of all , when you will blast massive links to your site , there will come some red flags . First of all you are trying to outrank other peoples sites right , if they are there on index then there is a reason for them being on this place , for you like a new comer there is no reason for google to speed your jumping on the serps ( taking other peoples ranks ) . Peoples warning you to not blast directly your money site because most of the time , newbies with dirty-poor new splogs trying to outrank fairly decent other sites , doing much damage than gain for their sites .
Second thing , harming competitors let's see things like this an 10 year old site even if is crappy like hell , over the time had hundreds maybe thousand backlinks on their domain some come some go ... if you are comming one day and blast damn loads of links on it , most probably will give him some penalty points it's true ... but when the updates come/ when the '' caffeinated effect '' pass , the site will be back on the top positions even stronger than before ! ....
Another aspect , specially for the scrapebox / xrumer blasts and other similar tools . The main disavantage of them it's the footprint of the links , the coders / programmers who made those tools for you kids , focus on specific platforms ( like scrapebox can post blog comments / xrumer can do forum profiles / autopligg can exploit the damn pligg sites ) ok ... thing is there is a huge footprint because google will see it ... you being a newbie , with the dirty-poor splog blasting your site day and night long with scrapebox , will leave footprints ( same kind of backlinks / various sources / very short time between posts ) and so on yes the time of posting the damn links is seen actually there are themes on wordpress who show / display the fkin time when the comment was done lol .

Another important aspect there , let's say there is an online store right , a business like any other one ... do you really think even a second , those business aren't protecting their assets ? Yes traffic for online stores is an asset damn it , like that and because of that this particular business exist ... Do you really think again even a second THIS business will give you any chance to over take their positions ? W R O N G!

There are peoples who monitor hundreds / thousands keywords daily ... review and work on this crap 24/7 ... they do that because it's their job damn it ... And don't even think a second the report spam options from google aren't working :) ... they work well and are pretty efficient :) .

So all this '' reasons '' makes more damage than gain , for large / huge blasts for your sites . Not the fact you are blasting the site like hell , the way how you do it , when you do it and so on ...
