I had an website on health niche. one of my top keyword is "fast weight gain capsules". I created one blog in blogspot for free with "exact matching domain" and just updated with one post. And i am doing much better SEO for my own website but have to satisfy at the 10th or 11th position whereas my FREE, blogspot domain was at top 4. How this happen? so is that good to promote a free blogspot domain for my business instead of spending $$$ on own websites? Or is there any specific reason behind this?

There could be several causes for this... in general, I've noticed websites with proper SEO blow blogspot sites out of the water. If your blogspot site is ranking higher, awesome. I wouldn't put too much thought into it.

IMO it's better to do both, and branch out for many different kinds of keywords.

What shows up in the search will be different for everyone. Google tries to customize search results these days. I find it's a good strategy to link those sites to your main site.... make a nice network of free sites, like wordpress, blogspot, tumblr, and place backlinks to your main site. If the content is different, google probably won't think it's the same person.

hope this will help me a lot.....but, i am managing both the own and free domains from the same IP. But i am sure the content was different. So IP doest matter? may i follow what you say(making a nice network of free sites)?

I mean the IP of the server. In this case the IP of the blogspot blog will be googles. Not your own browsing IP address.

The only time your personal IP address comes into consideration is when you try to make many accounts from the same IP address, like making 10 different google accounts.
