I have blogged on a self-hosted wordpress site quite a lot of ebooks and videos I downloaded from this BHW site. I do this solely for my own pleasure. The site serves as my own learning notes and shared with merely a couple of my personal friends. The site is unlocked and accessible from anywhere we go.

I didn't do any marketing on that site. But as one can expect gg found it in a way or other. It has been sending tens of unique IP to that site daily with hundreds of page views.

I am a bit concerned now publicly sharing those copy righted materials. The site is shared with my other white hat business sites in a US server, while I am in Asia. How bad could it be to me when one day one of the video/ebook author found their material on my site?

I hate to completely conceal the site as I will like getting people to comment on my learning notes in the long run.

    Any suggestion?

Well your web host would shut your website down if it receives copyright complaints and you do not take the content down.

    Same with your domain register.

Hosting copyright material is not good.

Taking stuff off of BHW and putting it onto your own blog...

    Can you smell it?

    I smell a ban coming.

Best option - close it down.

If you still want to keep it up

Move the site to another server / hosting account - and possibly change the domain registration details, if you can.

Put the entire site into a protected area - and give access only to your friends.

Otherwise, be prepared to take your pants down when...

you should have chosen NOT to index your site in google.(modifying your meta tag so that google robot won't index your pages). that way your site will be private and no search engine can link to it.
you can also make your blog private(e.g:wordpress) allowing only specific email addresses to access your site.

he said its self hosted. Ok simple. if your using a linux box create an allow/deny rule in SE linux or tcp wrapper. Allow your own/buddies IPS deny everything else. problem solved.

PRO TIP: create robots.txt and tell googlebots to GTFO.

if i were you, i'd keep the thing up where it is, but change the wordpress settings so that you have to be an approved member to read anything and if you wanted to get really ballsy with it, put cb ads to the ebooks you have on that welcome page where people have to login.

No offense mate but that's like a whole new dimension of idiocity. You leeched stuff and shared it on a public site thinking it's just gonna be between you and your buddies. You get some traffic and now you are freaking out.

Here's a suggestion..take the stuff down..m sure that can help no?

I agree if you let big G index you in the first case then you have very little option but to restrict access to the site.
