I am in the process of working on a web development company, and it's easy enough to accept cash and checks...what about credit cards? Obviously the inability to accept them could cost you many sales. What are you offline moguls using to accept the credit card buyers?

You have a web development company and you cannot accept payments online? Why you would collect payments offline, your clients don't know how to use PayPal?

Paypal isn't available everywhere. Also why stick with Paypal when there are so many other payment processors.

Yes, not everywhere only in 203 countries. Why to use it, because 90+% people use it and trust it. If you sell something to average John Doe they trust PayPal, not to those other processors they have never heard off. Still don't understand why OP would want to process CC's offline.

I use stripe for payments online and they also have an iphone app so you can easily collect credit/debit payments whever you are using your phone.
Depends what country you are in though I guess.

Paypal has obviously crossed my mind... clearly. Not everyone is a member of paypal though and most older folks don't want to use that... in fact, a lot of older people don't want to deal with using CC online either... so it becomes a problem. That's why I asked... what FACE TO FACE methods of accepting credit cards do you use... I guess I should have been more clear lol.

I myself have an easier time accepting checks from companies that aren't comfortable using PayPal period. I've only had one instance of a check being bounced and the guy paid up after I took his content/site offline for nonpayment. I do know one person who swears by Payoneer but I have no direct experience with them. Still it is something you can look into.

If you have PayPal apply for PayPal Here. They send you a free scanner for your phone. You can also use Amazon Local Register. Neither one of them require all of the paperwork a regular merchant account has and you have no monthly fees.

I always liked freshbooks for invoicing. The difficult part about taking CC payments face to face with a swiper on your phone is that you can't give your customer a reciept on the spot

Square. It's cheap and those old people can use their tangible plastic cards.

I use PayPal's little thing that connects to my phone. They sent if over free and all payments are processed through PayPal so buyers feel safer.

It depends on what country your at. As other members replied before PayPal offers a cc "scanner" that plugs into your phone. You use your PP app as a typical terminal and swipe the card in the plugged in adapter.

Also just about when I was leaving Australia, I saw that you can now buy PayPal terminals that are just like the ones banks offer only smaller and it goes to your paypal acc without banks and it's much, much cheaper was like $50 AUD.

There are quite a few options out there, I did online/offline business and needed a terminal for payments found quite a few but it really depends on your location as many of them are still "testing" how it works in some countries.

Make sure before you make a decision explore the whole offer as many of them higher % then others.
Alternative is Banks EFTPOS that works on 3g network so you can walk around with that, only that requires more paperwork with the bank and probably is more expensive in Australia the banks 3g EFTPOS was around $1000 AUD i believe (don't remember anymore but was quite expensive)

*I think you can always just use PP app and charge their CC on the spot using their CC number.

Forgot I posted this thread but thank you for all the advice. The PayPal swiped thing seems to be the best option.
