They are somehow able to validate if a stranger has upvoted a post.

I remember seeing this for the first time on sproutgigs

They check if number of upvotes increased or not

First the scrape total upvotes and if the upvotes are increased it means upvoted, but this is not 100% accurate way this can be manipulated easily.

Just check if the post's total upvotes increased, sometimes reddit masks the results to make this harder.
