I've been banging my head against a wall.

    Short story -

I have an affiliate site but the external affiliate links for places like eBay are horrid. I'm looking for a way to mask those links so they don't look like eBay but once clicked, redirect to eBay with my affiliate link etc.

I've found a new plugins but they all appear to be for manual adding? I need something that will wildcard external (ebay for example) URLS to a pretty link on either my own domain, or something else?

    For example barn-finds.co.uk

Would a URL shortener not work?

    Also, couldn't you just create a redirect via cpanel? (i.e. biguglyebayurl.com > mydomain.com/buy)

I don't like bitly etc as they get picked up with spam. PLus I auto feed from eBay, add affilate link then post to Facebok etc..

I don't think cPanel will rewrite the link in the post quick enough, before it gets posted on the site, then to ebay etc.

That sites doing it but I can't work out how, it must be a plugin? I know they're using a custom domain with bitly though

I'm wondering if I'm overthinking this one but if I can hide my eBay.com part of the URL then I'm gold and think I can massively improve my conversion rate

If you use dynadot or namecheap, godaddy they have the option to forward your domain with masking option.

    Dynadot calls it Stealth. https://www.dynadot.com/community/help/question/whats-stealth-forward
    Godaddy http://webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/55050/domain-forwarding-godaddy-forward-only-forward-with-masking

Hadn't thought of that. It could be done with htaccess as well but Wordpress will still pull in the eBay URL and post in the site.

It's the hiding the EBay bit before it posts really that I need as it then posts to Facebook and social

Will test. Not sure that will change before a post goes live in Wordpress though

    Thank you though

You are trying to hide the link when they hover over the link?

Pretty much how that site in OP are doing it?

But yes. I don't mind either my own domain or I'll just buy another and post that

He's not doing anything special that I can see, those are owly shortened links straight to ebay. I donno if he's cloaking them out for FB's view but from end user view they're just owly shortened links.

He's using a custom domain and different domain from the site although shortened domain and it's clearly autoposted from eBay so they're doing something. It's how he's doing it and automating it, that's the question
    .

No way are they doing every link manually.

They've got loads of sites as well

    Owl.ly has a api http://ow.ly/api-docs

He's scraping ebay, gets the url/link, adds his affid, shortens via owly and autoposts to this blog.

Far as I know that's his operation, no rocket science. Maybe there's a plugin to do all that automagically.

    And that's my question ;)

I could spend hours and hours manually changing links and masking but he isn't so if he's doing it, anyone else can

The procedure I described can be fully automated. My only question would be if he's using a plugin, which I don't know, but otherwise wiring up a script to do those steps should not be rocket science, both Wordpress and owlly have apis you can automate.
