    asking doesn't equal getting.

you can easily see if a domain name is worth anything by doing a keyword search.
If millions of searches for it are done monthly and if you can then monetize it...

If not, save your dollars and build your own brand

my immediate thought is that it is too late to get into this... prices are deflating badly right now. you think the prices are high now, look at some sales in 2007.

having said that, if you apply yourself, it is never too late. the question is - can you use your time on other activities to make more $$$$?

Mainly due to luck. It's like a lottery. You can own a ton of names, think of them as lottery tickets. Odds are no one will ever value your domains very much. Buy out there in the sea of names every now and then a name goes for good money. Good luck.

The million dollar question is ......

"How do you attract lots of end users-not resellers-to (at least) see your listings among hundreds of other names ?"

I thought of these folks when reading this thread:
    Code:
    http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Bush_library_loses_domain_and_web_1211.html
They bought the expired domain for less then $10 and then got $35,000 for it.

I can't figure out why some of the domains that are either just plain dumb or gibberish sell for as much as they do.

Now I'm kinda new at this, but do people really get paid around this much for a domain name like this? lol .... and where would we sell these? Ebay? Godaddy?

Exactly. I can't really understand how some domains don't really make sense or look like crap sell for what they have.

Most domains listed on aftermarket sites are listed for way more than they are worth. Some sites where you can sell:

    dnforum
    digitalpoint
    namepros
    sedo
    afternic

I sold a name a couple weeks ago that i hand registered and had for about 2 yrs. I had it parked with a for sale offer on it. Never had one inquire. So i collected an email list for that niche and sent out a mass email and a week later it was sold. There is good money to be made in buying domains aftermarket or hand reg them then remarket them to your niche.

    Domains that sell:

    Major Money Makers:
    1) DOT COM domains of high-paying/major keywords
    2) DOT COM domains containing high-paying/major keywords
    3) DOT COM with low amount of letters/numbers (1-4 sell best)
    4) Domains that are easy to remember
    5) Domains that have potential to make profit (if a site was built off the niche)

Id write more, but those are the general ones which will get you the major money.

Heya, I'll add my 2c. People can get up to 250,000$ for a domain, buying one of those a domain maker might profit in ads alone. The entire .cm domain series is owned by a company 50/50 with the country and they forward to ads if someone screws up spelling .com. That was quite a contract to land. Another thing is that these guys own their own domain registrars therefore have access to information slightly if not a ton faster than everyone else and script purchasing of domains with custom softwares and have been doing it since the late 1990s. GL and if you ever want to open up a domain registrar just for that purpose, let me know and I'll help you research contacts, maybe we should both create one and jointly run them. Anyone else game?
PM me if you're serious and interested.
