I mean, the cost alone and the amount of time it's going to take to manage them!!
    AAAAAaaaarrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhh.
I'm new, forgive me, but here's my basic estimation of costs:

Expired Domain = $10 (if you are lucky)
    Annual Hosting= $30
    10 articles = $50
    Total = $100/site (approx.)

And that's just a site with 10 articles. Likely to get no traffic or SERP's.

So, a 10 site PBN at $100/site is going to cost $1000 and will probably take a year to finish no?

You can then use this PBN to rank some mid-competition keywords?

Is this how it works? Or am I missing something?

Well, it can be more expensive actually :) A nice domain can be easily $300-500. But why do you need 10 articles? You just need 1 per money site you have.
With 10 domains you really don't rank for much (depends on the niche).. even some easier keywords can be too much for that many domains.. Ideally you want a network 30-50+ domains (depends on the niche).

    You can grab 100 PBN-solid expired/scraped articles from @bossofthebosses for $100.

PBNs price scale with the quality of your pbn.
You can create a PBN for about $5, or $0. Get some expired tumblrs, spin trashy content. You might get a few months out of it or a year or 2 if you're lucky who knows.

You can also create very cheap and shitty with using cloudflare to serve as a proxy to hide your main host ip. Will last about the same time as the above.

But if you want real quality, long lasting PBNs then you're essentially creating REAL websites, and also hiding the ownership of these domains which will then skyrocket your $$.

The way I do it, churn and burn, then use the earnings from the LQ pbns to create higher quality PBNS. But it's really up to you and keep in mind, shitty PBNS can last really long depending on niche and how shitty it is.

i mean if i create a PBN from scratch, i would need to build each PBN website individually? hence atleast 10 articles per site (including 1 linking to the money site)

well yeah, most PBN tutorials I've read ask to create legit looking websites and like you said, the prices for those can really add up. I can imagine it being quite tiresome to manage so many sites.

so an epired tumblr PBN is what is "web 2.0 PBN"? that seems doable.

The articles and sites don't all need to be done at once.
Spread it out, make them all different.

This. There's absolutely no need to build crazy websites.. You can, no problem, but you don't have to. As long as they look okay looking. It's a bit ridiculous to demand that all PBN sites look like they have $3000 designs etc. Not everyone have money or skills to build websites like that. Just make sure they don't look like crap and look like they have some effort put in.

Don't think about PBN like it's a regular Web2.0 campaign you set up with some tools and just let it run. PBN is an investment, it's a really useful tool - so treat it like that.

A well built PBN can deliver tons of value.. Don't think about those services that you can buy from BHW, they are not PBN, they are regular blog networks with powerful domains. P means private, not public.
So take your time and build a nice network, it's worth it.
