it's even better if you do it with free apps imo.
for the marketer/dev it's cheaper and for the customer it's not a real scam.
and you still make tons of money through advertising if you do it right.

anyway a big part of the apps are not custom made as of today.
they are mixed up between bought code snippets, graphics and sounds.

I don't see any scam here. The kid/guy did blackhat trick to push his rankings. Same shit happened with Flappy bird. He have not stole anything, people have bought his game themselves.

Imo, I think the kid is smart rather than scammer prick or how ever the article made him to look.

Edit. + This article is a goldmine if you have enough brains. A proper method for people who haven't thought about this before.

It sounds well, but needs big capital to start.

That's pretty interesting, I wonder how the person bought that many Apple ID's.

Also I think it cost him a lot more the 20k. 20k was only for the app + bulk buying of id, what I guess ain't that cheap + having money in each account which is backed with a debit card

He probably had a couple of main accounts and then "gifted" the apps to the spreaded accounts.

I think that gifted apps doesnt count for apple.
This method is blackhat only for apple because wants one account per user.
The interest part here is how a person can have 20.000 fake apple ids with money.
And believe me is very easy for apple to find it now.

Because he "cheated" his way to the top and stole the game's code as well or that's what they are saying. The guy is also a well known scammer on many other site's according to other articles I've read.

Actually I just remembered a post of BHW where you can get paid peanuts to DL certain apps from app store and play them quickly. Guy said he spent like 2 hours to make $30 or something like that. Anyways that is how you can get 20000 different apple ID and more to make it more legit.

    No scam and no story.

He purchased a template, changed it and uploaded it to google play.

It's no difference to plr. It's what it's made for and is perfectly legal.
