How about using a formerly hacked domain as PBN?

I was just stupid as sh** and bought an expired domain which was hacked some time ago. The metrics and backlink profile are really great. PR3, CF23, PA/DA ~30. No spam, some powerful edu backlinks. I was in a hurry and missed to check the waybackmachine otherwise I would have seen it was hacked before.

There was a big banner *This site was hacked by the proud Turkish hacker team* (something like this) with a big flag from Turkey... really weird.

It is not a big loss though because probably every bidder saw what I did not see and therefore I got it cheap.

I am wondering now if I should just leave this thing or invest the time and build a PBN anyway. I mean after all: The backlink profile is really very good.

    Whats your opinion?

I don't really have anything to add since I don't have experience with this and I have no idea wether Google itself detected the hack, but common sense indicates it might not be a problem at all.

Think about it, numerous genuine websites get hacked everyday, so why the hell would Google (keep) punish(ing) them when the hack is patched?! It doesn't make anysense. Heck, I believe even NASA.gov was hacked in the 90's.

Is it still indexed and does it pop up at 1 when you search for it's brand name?

Never heard of Google doing anything about it and it was hacked so it's not the owners fault really so i don't see Google penalizing you unless it keeps happening maybe

It was hacked, not spammed... so, you're good to go...

I had one moneysite hacked, dropped in ranks until i fixed it. After I cleaned it from malware (yeah, i even had chrome not allow people to open it from it), got my ranks back - took a bit of time, but the point is it didn't stick - you are good.

I'd say go and build a simple site on that domain with no external links and add it to GWMT. Fetch it as Google and get it indexed.

Let it sit for a day or two until Google crawls and indexes all the pages. If there is no new messages in Malware section of GWMT, you're basically good to go on your way to build the PBN but, if any new message popped up in the Malware section, you'll have to file a reconsideration request explaining you're the owner of the domain and you have hosted the site on another host with better protection.

Yes it is still indexed. Also the site pops up first when I search for the domain name. Alright I guess I will just build it and see what happens. We never know before anyway :)
