I've read alot of rags to riches stories but I think this is the best one i've ever read. Especially since I think we can all related to it especially since I assume most here are trying to make some money online! Its not only a good read but also has lots of good lessons to learn. So I figured I'd share!

    Source for blog post

The most amazing realization is the one where you finally understand how meaningless money really is...

    Edit:
I just realized that the guy who made the original blog entry seems like a jaded goofball as he implied that money does buy happiness. In my opinion, money only makes life easier on you, which makes it easier to find happiness... or easier to delude yourself into thinking superficial things equate to happiness. :p

True, but I think the OP is something we can all relate to.

Also take note of where he f'ked up:

    1) He redesigned the site and changed the way his website his website treats URLs. All his URLs were changed. When he was building the site tons of people were linking to the old urls and ranking them up in google. When he changed the urls all the new urls had no links to them and as a result, lost all their rank. If he were to change back to his old urls he would still be making decent money. Just goes to show that you have to know how SEO works and you can't rely on other people to improve the site if you don't know what you are doing.

    2) He had no money management skills. Take notice that his first 100k check he blew it on expensive (unnecessary) cars and vacation. Meanwhile he invested NONE of it.

Its also interesting to note that he made most of his success from spamming Myspace. He got tons of people to go to his site through myspace messages and those people linked to him. Without the ability to do that his myspace site would have never made millions.

I must admit that I skimmed through the text but where exactly did this guy "lose 2.5 million"?
What I got from it was that he had a successful idea, made a ton of money, bought a ton of things, made a website overhaul that led to losing traffic. But where did he LOSE the money? I mean, he spent it and can still sell the house, car and after all that here's pretty much over 2 mill he doesn't say where it went to. So where is this "lost" money? He might have lost his money machine and bought some stupid sh$t but that's it.
    Or am I missing something?

His story is not that unique. In every country, there are hundreds of REAL riches to rags people. In Asia, (their story was on TV), more than a year ago, a very poor couple won a $1 million lottery. And in less than a year, they have nothing. A lot of people were asking them for money, and they helped them. But when it was their turn to ask, they were turned down.

This is why it is important to teach people about "rich dad, poor dad" "richest man in babylon" "the secret" "napleon hill" etc. etc.

Because if you dont have that knowledge and you struck struck gold by luck, you are bound to lose it all again eventually because of the mentality of a poor man aka working class or majority of people; (buying stuff that does not make a return, buying stuff that lose value like cars, etc., going on holidays, and then if there is anything left you invest/save.) Where as the mentality of the rich is invest first, reinvest again, save, and then spend.

Nice story? Totally bullshit. he was saying: "Where it all went What can I say, I was Young & Stupid" Is he old now? (22 years old). And I did not see how he lost everything? He did not actually.

Yes it is a no:1 candidate for toilet flush.

Never ever spend all your income, regardless of what you do for a living. Invest in the future. We may all look back on these days of easy internet money. It might only going to get harder, more regulated, saturated in the future.

exactly, people better wake up. This internet money will be here for maybe another 10-15 years IF! that but once everyone starts jumping in the fire the US government will make it harder to be able to make money online.

My God, is today fool's day?

Are you all with your ugly girlfriends watching romantic movies rather than doing some real world action?

What a sentimental thread is this. I am crying. booooooooooooooooooooo:bsflag:

Showing off is what got him. Good to show off every now and then but dont do it all the time.

Also his gold digging girlfriend was his downfall too.

Internet money is just money to save up. and start a offline business.

I do care what anyone says Internet Marketing is not a fulltime job its a hustle

Kind of motivational for me, but "the secret" part is bullshit. trust me on that - Ive spent a great deal of my life reading similar books and watching such movies. Your thoughts and emotions doesn't change ANYTHING, there is no fate or destiny- its just your skills, your actions and the consequences.

That's unfortunate. He should have spammed other ways as well, so that the site had more lasting power. Had he done that, it could still be fixed.

The details are different, but my story is pretty similar. I built a site up, got it to the point where it was clearing $100,000 a month. Then thought I could improve everything by switching to a more user-friendly domain name. Despite all my planning and 301 redirects, I lost most of my rankings and earnings tanked to $20,000.

It took three years, but now Google is now my best friend again, and I'm working my way back up...
