I believe in being fair so I will state before I start ranting that once I went on live chat I was informed of the issue and the matter was resolved quite quickly!

I've been with Hostwinds for about a year now, never had any major issues until today.

I received an email stating that my account had been suspended due to non payment, when I checked my sites it was true, all were redirected to a suspended page.

I first checked my paypal account as I have a recurring payment set up and sure enough there it was, 22 Feb one month payment as usual. I got straight on to live chat with support. They stated initially that they had no record of the latest payment so I gave them the transaction ID and a screenshot. They then came back to me after a few minutes stating that my account had been suspended because the payment amount was less than the invoice. I asked how this had occurred as I had not been informed of any price increase, the agent then told me that an email had been sent a while ago.

I searched through my emails and finally found the one he referred to:

dPrGG.jpg

No mention of a price increase in the subject line, the email starts by talking about ddos attack protection and then after 5 lines of text there is a mention about the price. Not highlighted in any way so I would almost certainly have dismissed the email believing it to be just informative before I reached the part about the price!! (I receive about 100+ emails per day, many of them simply information)

My rant is mainly about the fact that the email wasn't clear about the price increase and the fact that after over a year of payments they would suspend my account without contacting me over the huge sum of........

$0.76

I'm from the UK so that works out to a grand sum of 51p!!!

OK somebody will probably come along and say it's my own fault for not reading the email correctly and you would possibly be correct but I would have thought that some contact before suspension would have been common courtesy especially considering the paltry sum involved.

Rant over but be warned, read emails from Hostwinds carefully.

To be fair I didn't have any major issues with them until this, it just seems really unprofessional for them to treat customers this way.

My main business focus at the moment is offline anyway so it hasn't affected me greatly, I just despise poor customer service. (I didn't even receive an apology)

If I decide to start doing more online related stuff and my websites are more important then I will be looking for a new hosting company.

That's so unprofessional. Not everyone reads every email they receive, especially when it seems like it's just another informational email. What if that email had landed in the SPAM folder? In any case, suspending an account over such a small amount without as much as a warning is NOT cool. Thanks for sharing this information. I will never use their services in future.

It's really sad to hear that you had to go through everything for that kind of amount, if you are looking for a new host with a rock solid support then give us a try. I can hook you up with first month of hosting for 99% OFF so that you can experience how amazing our SSD Shared Hosting nodes are. Shoot me a PM or add me on Skype (poweruphosting) if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer, at the moment I'm not doing much IM work as I'm busy setting up an offline business. I won't be needing a website (at least not anything spectacular) as it's not the type of business that would require a website.

If I decide to start working on IM again I'll bear you in mind.

That's really petty of them to do this to their customers after paying on time. Also that e-mail was confusing. If I read that email I would think that it would be about DDOS attacks and I would close it immediately. No one will read through the entire thing. They should have sent a separate e-mail about the price increase. The sad thing for them is that they probably lost a lot of loyal customers over this and possibly many of them requested a refund on PayPal.

You just contact the admin, and usually your account will be refunded. This is to some hosting. Unless all your database was deleted entirely

Exactly what I did do, started to read then closed as I believed they were informing me about increased DDOS protection and nothing more. If they had mentioned price increase in the subject or even in the first line I would have read it all.

I've already contacted them via live chat support and to be fair they told me all I needed to do was pay the HUGE outstanding balance and my service would be immediately restored which is what happened.

That sounds good and I appreciate that :)

Heard good things about powerup how much are your vps per month?

That is why you should always select a hosting provider that offers price freeze guarantee.

Also thinking to move to other vps, my hosting went down 2 times this month and makes me lost lots of traffic.. I already upgraded and the server always meets max disk space.. Should send email at least when disk space nearly meets max capacity.. What's ur suggestion guys?

Get different hosting. If it's compromising your leads/sales/conversions, it's not worth having.
