I use to be hardly to rank a site targeting US by using hosting that's located in my country. But that was 2 years ago. How about now? does hosting location matter?

I wondered the same thing on many occasions; then I tested it. I concluded there is no measurable difference.

IMO hosting locations doesn't matter with SEO, just focus on content quality and relevance.

If you are trying to rank in a specific country only then I would go with local hosting. I have tested this on a few out of the way places and definitely noticed a difference.

It was the case 3 years ago, but kt is not the case anymore.

FYI, in GWT you can specify the location of your website

I believe hosting location matters and so does the tld. For instance if you are trying to rank in the UK then go with UK hosting and .co.uk domain.

I was (almost...) sure that it doesn't play any role but a few month ago i realize that on a niche i work a totally new site without any backlinks or on site optimization get position #1 in less than 2 months. The only explanation: local hosting (and TDL of course...)
This happen on a small niche on a small country (no US, or any other country) where local hosting companies are no more than 5 and the prices for simple 100% local hosting is 200-500% more than overseas hosting.
I can't say if his works in other countries or markets but in this particular case look that it works.
