I have about ten sites with hostgator and tried to set up a Forex site yesterday with them. I emailed them about it today and they said I couldn't because it was against their TOS.

Where can I register and host a Forex site?

Also I may add if I remember correctly My first year was free. I found them from searching for free bannerless hosting. I have since renewed service and am on my second year.

if you're thinking of setting up a forex broker site, go offshore or something.

If you're thinking of setting it up with a US hosting, you will need approval from the FDA or something,,

    FDA.... lol

    From the hostgator TOS:
Thats really bizarre.. not sure why hostgator doesn't allow investment sites on there..... They don't allow sites about RPGs either  I think whoever wrote this TOS was drinking on the job...

mate, rpg consumes lots of bandwidth consistently, even if you get unlimited bandwidth, its not -fair usage policy...

as for forex, it pretty much speaks for itself. You need proper certification and legal compliance to run a fx site, hostgator just don't want to mess in this crap.. No one's drinking on the job, its just another newbie talking rubbish.

    It was a joke, boy.

A turn based game would hog server resources, though with a client-side or even a downloadable rpg, it would barely use any. But I see what you were trying to say.

As long as your not a broker, you don't need any certification. To be safe side though, you should add the usual "fx involves significant risk" statement at the bottom of your site (see the bottom of fxstreet.com)

Regarding the OP, I just checked out bluehost's tos and it doesn't have anything about "investment sites" in there, so that would be a good alternative to hg.

I had my forex site on Hostgator, mainly articles with an RSS and adsense and a couple of clickbank products. Also an affiliate link to the 'Easy Forex' platform. They'd never said anything but when someone mentioned Hostgator didn't allow it I went and read the TOS and sure enough they didn't. I emailed them thinking they must just mean brokerages or something, but nope they told me to take my site down or my account would be suspended. Utterly bizarre.

I moved to BlueHost without any probs and couldn't find anything in their TOS against forex sites.

It's earned me a few adsense pennies and a couple of clickbank commissions for FAP but it's not a great money maker. Easy Forex wasn't worth joining even though they offer high commissions - I got plenty of clicks but no conversions. Probably because it's a shit platform!

So....those with a forex site on Hostgator get it off a.s.a.p. especially if it's profitable, because when they find out, and they will, they'll give you very little notice to remove it.

Ive got about 10 forex sites and have no problems hosting them, there is no certification required to run a forex site, its more to do with becoming a broker and shortly if you are referring U.S customers to a broker then you will need certification also, (you do already with IBFX).

forex site they mean are investment related like pooling user money illegaly. I guess it would be fine as a forex affiliate or Introduction Broker in the meaning of "forex trading". If you think you are good on forex then why dont affiliate with reputable forex broker like FXSOL or ECN broker.
Forex is about the Reputation so its better to take higher class of forex business.

    depends on what's needed
    NFA - National Futures Assocoation

CFTC - Commodity Futures Trading Commission

These are the 2 "governing" bodies concerning forex atm. Although, with the current economic crisis globally this may change soon. Too many Madoffs, he was just one of many to be coming out in the next year or so. Also, the industry isn't actually 'regulated" the same way that the SEC regulates the stock market.

Basically, it's still an industry that's like the "Wild WildWest" when it comes to governing forex in the US. What that means is that if you open an acct in the US you really don't have a lot of protection atm should you have a problem with your broker. As a little guy you have to fight on your own if you have a problem. And it's really difficult to "prove" you're right. Although, there are ways but it can be very costly to do and they have you at their mercy afterwards which means they can "mess" with you!

Whereas if you open an acct in for eg. Australia you have a lot more clout should you have a problem with your broker. The brokers are much more willing to work with you and be reasonable because they don't want to lose their license, get sued, etc. It's a whole differnet ball game there.
