I have several client sites that are on my host but all sharing the same IP will this hurt the seo efforts?

do i need to change their IPs and dedicate an IP to each?

If your sites are clean and legit then you've got nothing to worry about. Otherwise, I'll save myself some typing:

The only thing it would hurt is interlinking the sites you own. Once you have all your sites ranking nicely and want to use them as a network for linking you should get unique ip's for each. until then there should be no problems. :)

As above ^ providing you're not linking them, it's not a problem. Look how many sites are on a single IP with shared hosting.

if they link to each other and you want to pass some of that PR, then yeah you should buy a new IP for each of those sites.
a seperate IP address is only like a dollar each.. probably worth it imho
