Just got off the chat with Hostgator's so called "Tech Support" after I noticed my server was down when one of my clients called me about his website. The entire server crashed (shared server) so everyones sites are down. This is the 6th time in the past two months their servers have crashed. They claim they have 99.99% uptime. Which means the servers can be down for about 45 minutes a month. They go way over that and have already issued me a refund. I have a reseller account with them. What also irritates me is they can never give a reason for why the servers crashed or when they will be back up. It just very frustrating.

Well enough of my ranting for now, what I was wondering was if any members on the BHW forum could recommend a solid web hosting provider that offers reseller accounts like Hostgator. Any recommendations would be appreciated as I am sick of Hostgator after being with them for 8 years.

    Thanks!

I actually loved hostgator and their service,
chat and phone tech support are crappy... but if you set up a ticket and ask that somebody call you, you'll usually receive a call from somebody who actually knows.
I had their resellers and i hated that they were always getting ddos attacks, i got myself a vps with them, and never been happier :)

yep... reseller accounts giving me some dodgy playing as well. I had for years shared accounts and they were at top. But when I moved to reseller accounts couple month ago, it all started going awol.

Exactly, and I don't know what it is. I don't know if they are getting so big that they just don't care any more or what it is. I just can't stand it anymore.

i was never crazy about hostgator. i used to use them years ago, but have since switched to a multitude of other companies. its okay if you're just running a basic site, but nothing stellar.

Bluehost is another good option. I personally like hostgator, but I have all my client's stuff on shared hosting with mine, never had a problem except for a few PEBKACs, but that's normal.

The problem with servers that are crammed up with resellers is that some of them will also cram their account to the max with websites. The end result is a server with hundreds (sometimes even thousands of accounts), so the chances of something going wrong are simply too high.

If you can justify it, get a (managed) dedicated server, or even a very good managed VPS with cPanel and all bells and whistles possible (for your clients).

Thats what you get for basing your hosting choice on a 'name' and low price tags. Been screaming this from the rooftops for years but nobody listens!

Depends on your needs - what country, what resources, what kind of management etc etc
I am currently very happy with HWSHosting, a UK based company with my VPS server and a reseller account both on UK servers.

Least amount of problems I have had with hosting since I sold up my businesses a long time back!
