When I first started one site I bought a domain and host gator hosting. Then I bought a website last month and had it moved to my hostgator, as a subdomain.

Now if you do site:Originaldomain.com you get all of the other which comes up as site:newdomain.orginaldomain.com

Is this going to create a problem? It seems like it will All of a sudden I went from having 63 indexed pages for my original domain to 3200 pages from newdomain.orginaldomain.com

I was told by hostgator that I have to upgrade to reseller hosting?
    Does this sound right?

go to cpanel click addon domain
    use your 2nd websites name
then get in touch with hostgator and ask them to shift it from subdomain to addon
or if you have the files upload them via ftp and when you know all is good delete subdomain
then do a redirect from newdomain.orginaldomain.com to newdomain.com for any links etc
not sure how it will affect you in the serps in the short term though but defo better in the long run

Sounds like you may have need for tech ticket to sort it out and not loose anything. Usually they can get it done quick. Otherwise:

If you wish to add a new domain.xxx to your account, go to c-panel then addon domain to add the domain. It sounds like the DNS at the registrar is pointing to your HG main domain. Leave that alone for now unless a problem (normally you need this step when buying and transfering, sounds like done).

    result: main-domain.xxx
new-domain.xxx (as a stand alone domain)

Subdomain can be added any time by going to c-panel then subdomains and adding what you want. New sub-domain will show up as a seperate folder in public, and addresses will be sub1.main.xxx.

Hope this clears it up a bit, and no you should not need reseller to add domains or subs.

    cheers...

I contacted hostgator and they are telling me that they cannot do this at all.

So what is the next step?

could that be the reason I am sandboxed because 3200 links were added to my original domain when you type site:domain?

have you got the second option for hosting $9+ unlimited domains or just the first option where you can only have 1 domain

Well do what Gapster and I said
install it as an addon domain
if you have the files ftp them up to it
if not save them from your subdomain and then ftp them to your addon
I dont really understand why they would say you cant
anyway even if they say you cant believe us you can

I will try when I get home, thanks! As long as I have the back up of the files if I do something wrong I should be able to fix it right?

lol, agreed... before I went reseller I had over 50 addons and a few of those had subs a half dozen deep, all on a 9 dollar plan. Must be a misunderstanding in there somewhere with tech. gotta draw some of those guys a picture.

pro tip. just do it as outlined by boro, with backup of files and db, give the cache a little time to clear, and enjoy.
