a lot of you guys recommend hostgator. I signed up with them and now I got an email saying my site may be in violation of their Tos and I need to provide them with a copy of my ID. which is total bullshit. my site is 100% white hat, it is my real business's website.
I am wondering what to do here. I do not want to provide my ID. I have not done anything wrong and they are already harassing me. I plan to move a lot of my sites that I spam by SB/xrumer to hostgator and I would imagine they suspend you the minute they get a spam report?

I dont understand why you guys recommend HG when they are such bastards, I really dont want problems down the road. should I ask for my money back and sign up with another host?

That's standard with all new customers. You should have also been given an option to call, which is what you should do. They just want to verify your info, no big deal really.

I am not too worried about this one time...but since they are already harassing me even though I have done nothing wrong, I am just getting the feeling they are too strict for us blackhatters.

Never had any problems with them in fact switching to them was the best decision I have made as far as hosting solutions go. I think you should give them a call and explain the situation, I am sure they'll be more than happy to straighten it out and keep you as a customer if your site is truely white hat.

no worries, just reply them with your id and other requested information. i think you've got that message because they failed to verify your acc by phone :)
