So a year ago I opened my very first website, I used it for 2 months and then it got closed, and I didn't want to pay for another month because my income wasn't so good. So I just left my website closed and I was happy!

Now I decided to get back to my website, I entered my HostGator account and I see that they billed me 104.55$!! Every month they billed 10$ and last month they billed 15$ O_O So I'm very confused! Do I really have to pay this? I mean.. I didn't use the website at all because it was closed! So what the heck? In the email they said that if I have a credit card, they will bill me automatically, but I don't think I put my credit card on their website.. But on the payment information they got my house address and PIN right. So am I really paying this sh*t?

I talked to HostGator's support but they weren't very clear =\ They told me to cancel my account now, and I will not be "CONTINUED" to be billed. I was like... "Ok but what about the stuff you're already billing me right now?"... Answer: "Just cancel your account and you will not be responsible for the bills". But to be honest it doesn't sound true.. so I don't know.

What do you think? I would really love to hear, and sorry if I'm talking too much =\ Just wanted to give all the details I have to be sure.

    Thanks!

What do you mean by "closed"? Do you mean you closed your website or they suspended it? You may have agreed to a contract of a year when signing up!

    Sorry, I meant suspended.

I ordered the Baby Plan, but even if its for the whole year, that's why I pay my 10$ monthly AS LONG AS the website is running... not while its suspended.

But my question here is, can they bill me only by using my Address and Pin and my city information?

No, it's impossible. You have given your CC info to them, most likely to get something like a free domain for a year or similar. But you didn't inform them that you're quitting? If you had a recurring plan, then obviously you get billed every month...

Well, I paid them via paypal.. and they didn't take any money from my paypal yet, only the first pay for the domain and hosting.

I have 104.55$ in my current invoices and a button fo "Pay bill now".

So if I close my Hostgator account (As HG's support told me), the accout will be closed and I will not have to pay the bill. Is that true? I worked really hard on my website and put tons of content on it, but I'm not willing to pay 104.55$ to get it back lol. I prefer to close it finite.

(Sorry I don't know what happened to my color o_O not displaying in black)

Problem with this is that u only realized the error like a year later....they still provided u with the service... they will say it's not their fault that u didn't make use of the service... Hostgator support normally sucks when it comes to billing issues...I've had my fair share of drama with them

I would agree with them if my website was actually live and running.. but I don't know... I don't see any money going going out from my bank/CC/PayPal yet. So I'm really thinking to just close the website for good and get over with it, but I'm not sure if its a good idea, that's why I need your suggestions.

And thanks so much for helping me or at least trying to help! I really appreciate it.

The whole thing is your fault. You should close your account. They can not charge you via PayPal or CC without notice.
Change your email and info and add another CC or PP acct and move on. Sometimes, the easiest things are hard for some.

I believe this is the answer Answer: "Just cancel your account and you will not be responsible for the bills"

Just cancel your account as u have already been informed by HG customer support,u wont be charged

Alright thank you everypony! I submitted to them that I'm cancelling it, Now I only have to wait 72 hours until they actually close it! I hope they won't deny it or anything, and yes I changed my information and everything just to make it safer to me.

(I gave thanks to everyone just because you are awesome)

RIP my very first website :)

You can backup for your website now before it is too late and transfer it to a new server using WPTwin Plugin or the classic way (DB+WP-Content if you have a wordpress site.)

HG policy is they won't let you cancel over Email, Chat, or on the Phone! I think that is BS! Anyone else agree?
