My wife and I are a little long in the tooth, both over 60, and we both have artificial grills. A little over two years ago my wife had a tumor removed from her right jawbone. To remove the tumor the dentist had to remove he right lower jaw and replace it with titanium. A few months later, Starlight (real legal name) had a dizzy spell and took a fall that dislodged one of the screws holding the titanium to the bone. The screw was removed, but the bone was destroyed around that screw and the screw could not be replaced. The surgeon wrapped a celluloid impregnated with a substance that causes bone to grow around the titanium implant. She looked like either the world biggest chipmunk, or like she had the worlds worst case of mumps for close to a year. When I read that sentence to her, Starlight said I was wrong, she said that she looked like the worlds biggest chipmunk with the worlds worst case of mumps. A few months ago, x-rays verified bone growth, and the swelling had gone down.
We began the wild ride to begin to replace her dentures. We went to several dentists and prosthodontists. After x-rays and the subsequent show and tell to all of the office staff to see very advanced restorative/corrective surgery, we were told that the work was too advanced for them to make dentures. We then went to the University of Utah School of Dentistry to see about dentures. Same show and tell with nearly 200 people, and a signed release that they could use the x-rays for educational purposes, we received the same answer - too advanced for them. The surgeon then recommended another program at the U of U. They can do the job, but there is a five year waiting period because of the amount of the people in the program - even though this is the most advanced project they would do.
My wife now wants me to make her dentures. So I began on the horrible journey of learning how to make the damn things, it is not hard, but there are a large number video's that I will have to down load and filter. I can use Scrapebox to download the URL's and the video's to get up to speed on denture manufacture, and I have all the x-rays on a video disc that I can reference. I do not see any problem not normal in making dentures for a person without this surgery, but I see a problem in obtaining the materials.
Do any of you out there sell denture materials such as impression trays, acrylics, screw casks, wax sheets, acrylic and ceramic teeth? If so please let me know your website. In the alternative, do any of you know of websites that sell the materials.
I can find the materials, after one hell of a long search on Ebay and Alipress. The nasty search is because the serps are supressed by either the FDA (not reasonably) or complaining dentists. I am in the United States.
