So I built the homepage to my site last after I had already added a few articles and the site was already indexed.

Recently I noticed that my homepage does not rank at all for my keyterms but 2 of the sub pages are on page one. My privacy policy even outranks my homepage. As this is weird I looked into it and found that some piece of shit had cut and pasted my homepage content and put it on a web 2.0. The date on the web 2.0 was 2 days before my homepage content got indexed!

I am pretty sure this is the reason my homepage isn't ranking.

Now I have changed the content the homepage should start to rank. Is there anything else I should do to help overcome what is probably a duplicate content penalty?

I am getting a lot of problems with plagiarism at the moment. But this takes the biscuit.

If it was me, I'd contact the Admin/Mods/Support of the Web 2.0 and ask for the blog/page/account's removal. Of course, if you have evidence, then you have an even stronger case.

You can set the page(s) to be not indexed or not followed using robots.txt or meta tags. You can also have the offending page(s) removed using Google Webmaster Tools.

Not much you can do other than, contact the person stealing your content to take it down. You could include a CopyScape banner at the bottom of your article to try and scare them off.

You can always try and file for a DMCA letter to their host or the web2.0 but I doubt this is going to solve your solution. Just try and build out your site so it gets crawled/indexed at a more regular interval.

    Hey,

I don't know if I've been clear enough on my problem :) All of a sudden, all of my pages have lost their top 3 rankings, and Google has started ranking other pages than the ones targeted for keywords. For example: page A ranks for keyword B, page B ranks for keyword C and so forth ...

    Any ideas ?

Guys you should not allow privacy / contact pages to be indexed through the robots file.

If someone is copying your content then you have to go through the long road of DMCA notice to the host then the domain registrar. Takes time and efforts but achieves results. OR else outsource the process to dmca.com

If your privacy page is showing up above the rest of your pages when searching for the site in google, then wait a few days. It happens with new sites usually.

Having the wrong pages ranking for your keywords is usually an over optimization penalty on the targeted page.

EDIT: I just realized the other person's content got indexed 2 days before yours. That changes things. I would try and rewrite the content and make it even more comprehensive. Add extra unique content to it and cover a bit more related keywords.

De-optimize the main keyword by focusing more on building relevance through LSI keywords.

I have to wonder, how the heck did he find your website if it wasn't indexed in the first place?

You could also add a piece of code to stop people from right clicking on your website or left clicking and draging the mouse in order to copy and paste. It won't prevent someone from copying your content if they really want it, but it makes it more difficult and "warns" them that you care.

I use WP-Protect plugin on my wordpress blogs and disable right clicking, text selection and image dragging. So far no one copied my articles.

I was afraid if there are bots or software that scrapes my content that's why I use that plugin. But people who try to do it manually will have a hard time copying it,even if they download my webpage.

I am not sure really. I guess they found the site after I published some hight ranking articles. As it was their niche they saved it in their bookmarks or something. Then the day I published my homepage they must of just copied my content.

Use rich snippets to take ownership of your content and have it linked to your G+ account. If someone steals it after that you will not have to worry about it. Easier to do from the start if you have a big site though.
