    guys, please help me.
someone has offered me a domain for sale. The price is low enough for me to afford it.
domain belonged to a celebrity, and it expired. it's basically the celebrity's first and last names, like imagine bradpitt.org
not a celebrity "fan" website, but an official website. why did they let it expire? I have no idea. the celebrity is still alive.

all legit backlinks, high DA, high trust flow. PR is low, but who cares.

I want to use this as part of a private network that I'm trying to build. but here are 2 problems:

    1) cybersquatting. If I buy the domain, can I legally keep it?
    2) the domain is #2 even though it has no content. I would think it gets a lot of traffic. So if I put my money site's link on there, a lot of human visitors will see it, which is not a good idea. You want your private network to get zero traffic from human visitors.

What should I do? can i use it as a part of a private backlink network?

PS if I cannot use it as a part of a network, can I somehow make money off the site? maybe sell it on flippa as a "fan" site or put adsense on there or something?

No because any money you make off the domain you could be sued for.

Many celebrities incorporate themselves as companies, and they have the right to sue you if you profit from their likeness without their permission, especially if you own a domain that is an EMD for their name. (check for trademarks etc)

Domain is worthless and is just a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I dont think anybody would buy it because nobody wants to deal with trademark issues.
I wonder what would happen if I 301 redirect it to my money site?

Make a fan page out of it and monetize it with Adsense.

Just set it up as a personal blog for someone who has the same name - give them a persona and hobbies etc...

I gave away an EMD of a celebrity with 4million searches a month last year on BHW. It was worthless.

Just make a fanpage for the celebrity. What are the chances they will get so angry they will want to sue you for all the cash? If they get angry just give the website to them plus invite to playboy mansion.

Pretty sure he was using sarcasm haha.
And OP, I would do what Toby suggested. Purchase it, add privacy, host it in a foreign country and profit (Y)

This isn't true at all. Do whatever you want with the domain. If they didn't care enough to keep the domain under their ownership, they're not going to care what some SEO does with it after they give it up.

He is not buying it from the celebrity, he is buying it from a 3rd party (at least thats what it sounds like).

There is just no telling what sort of legal baggage that domain name already has.

You for sure cannot do anything commercially with it due to potential legal issues that may arise in the future, and using it as part of a blog network seems like a bad idea.

Way too much risk, but I guess everyone has their own thresholds.
